fyi....here is the response I got from the customer support team, when I told them that I wasn't happy with a clearly defective product and their offer of 35% off my next purchase rather than a repair/replacement. Of note, this is the second time one of their products has failed on me just out of warranty. They could at least direct me to third-party companies that make compatible bands. Overall, I am done with them and will purchase my next tracker from another company.

update--I bought the supcase and it works. Anyone out of warranty should consider this option rather than throwing more money at fitbit.

For everyone's information, the problem is widespread, and there are other community discussion threads about broken Charge 4 connectors, including https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Charge-4/Charge-4-broken-band-connector/m-p/5079710#M60509 where someone said that having a wrist size that's either very thin or exceptionally large also contributes to the breakage, due to extra stresses put on the connectors when you tighten the band to wear it.

My band connector also just broke.  I've had it 13 months, so no warranty coverage for what seems to indicate a design defect.  Every single Fitbit device I've ever owned has either had to be replaced under warranty or died within weeks of the warranty expiration.  This is not an isolated incident but a consistent failure to produce a robust product, especially given the premium price and the fact that it is supposedly designed to be worn while exercising! Too bad, because I otherwise love the product- style, size, features, software, etc.
