My Charge 4 turns off when unplugged

Very suspicious reading all the recent Charge 4 issues.  Mine at approx 17 months (xmas gift) seemed to be working fine, and i just added a nice aftermarket band being i was so satisfied.  It was holding charge about a week, latest S/W update, latest app, no current changes or concerns or abuses, then 4 days ago on a walk it started.  Flicked my wrist to check the time-no display, tap screen-nope, push buttom-buzzes but still no display.  Get home and try to sync with phone while on WiFi-taking a while sit tight....failed sync.  Try cycle bluetooth off & on-nogo, try restart phone-nogo, try force stop & restart app-nogo, finally hookup to charger via wallwart (though should have had approx 75% charge available)- but no battery/charge in progress display, button press still buzzes.  Try resetting device holding button while on charger-finally get a smile face but still no other displays or sync functions (no data at all).  Then notice the seeming battery failure too-that is if i disconnect from charger in evening-only operable functionality is buzz on button push-then by morning (haven't tried other disconnect durations) even the buzz is gone until i reconnect to charger.  Now at 4 days lost with a "bricked" Charge 4, searching for help here/online to no avail so far.

As a system engineer by profession, i strongly cannot believe this is a random device failure without involvement of some undesirable S/W update being the root-cause issue here.  (Note that the last mysterious issue i had a couple months back did get resolved after an update.)  OR, somebody did a really good job planning-in device mortality based on the number of similar symptom comments I've seen.  Whereas i enjoy using the device (having had several versions now) and having the ongoing data to review, i cannot justify sinking more money into a brand that seems to fail at such a rate as these do.  I will either go without or be a much more careful shopper next time!

I disagree with the moderator edited Subject line "clarifying" the topic, it misses the real topic that my Charge 4 has totally failed at barely 17 months old, almost instantaneously going from fully functional to total failure whether connected to charger or not!  NO data/sync, NO display (except for smile face upon device reset), NO sensor lights on bottom.  ONLY apparent functions are smile face already noted and button buzz/vibrate while charging or during the very short duration until the battery totally fails (which had been lasting approx a full week before the device failed).  All fix attempts/diagnostics thus far have been fruitless.  Reading the board shows numerous similar instances of what appears to be a common failure mode and timing though some point to fewer symptoms whereas mine appears to be a close to TOTAL failure.  I and others have also noted the similarity of failure mode and timing, and the common suspicion of a Fitbit software/app issue being the real possible cause.  The "Best Answer" then misses the mark in a similar manner as it fails to address the real issue/subject.
