My Fitbit Charge 4 just dies

My Charge 4 just died and nothing i do will turn it on. It was definitely charged before it just turned itself off. There are no lights showing on it even when i plug it into the charger. I've tried holding down the side (on) button for 20 seconds. A couple of times there was a fleeting smiley face but it just died again. Sometimes it starts vibrating but no lights and no smiley face. It was only bought in November 2020 so i would have expected it to last longer than a year. Any ideas?
