My distance is not accurate-Charge 3

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a 4 mile route I run - same route, 2 miles out, 2 back, every single time. MapMyRun gets it right, as does RunKeeper. But Fitbit adds about a mile to the total (and thus tells me I'm running way faster than I actually am.)   I generally run 2 minutes, walk a minute, and wonder if that's causing the problem - it gets confused because my stride length is changing?  But I run with my iPhone and the Fitbit app running (I manually start the activity and select run), location services are turned on and set to always, etc.  so it should be using GPS, not stride length.  I've read many of the other similar posts and most people have the opposite problem - the Fitbit's calculation is shorter than the actual distance.  I never had this problem with the Charge 2.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @jahansell.

Thank you for the information provided.

Please be aware that you can manually start a run from your Fitbit Charge 3 without touching your iPhone. If you still want to record the activity from the Fitbit app it is not necessary to start it from your Fitbit device too. For instructions on how to use the GPS of your Fitbit device, please visit this article.

We recommend performing one activity at a time. Since the stride length of the run and walk are different, if you are switching between those activities, the distance might be affected. If you want to walk after a run, please stop the activity and start a new one. This way you'll obtain more accurate readings.

Tons of people alternate walking and running - are you saying that the Fitbit Charge 3 cannot measure the distance those people cover? That is absurd. Plus people's stride lengths vary according to the intensity of the workout - people speed up and slow down and their stride lengths change accordingly. However, I am trying to use the GPS on my phone so the stride length shouldn't matter. I have all the settings turned on correctly (and, as I've mentioned, my other apps like MapMyRun track the distance correctly) but it doesn't work.  Any other suggestions or do I just pitch it and get an Apple Watch?
