No full sleep data on "Begin Sleep Now"?

Okay, so. I'm sure you all know that you can let the fitbit know you are going to sleep with the "Begin Sleep Now" button located on the top right:

But for some reason, even if you sleep over 3 hours to get more accurate data, only basic information is shown:

Why can't the REM/Deep/Light sleep information be shown when you start the sleep manually? Seeing the heartrate is 24/7, I'm sure the fitbit already has all the data it needs to fill in the blanks.

This appears to be an "issue" on the Charge 2 as well by the way.

Apparently, that is expected behaviour. Fitbit says:

"WHY DON'T I SEE SLEEP STAGES TODAY?

There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low."

Can't see anywhere where they say why it works like this but it seems clear they don't see it as an issue to be resolved.

Why have a begin sleep feature when it doesn't even track it? weird

Hi I’m new to this and bought my fitibit as I’m currently suffering with insomnia.

I can lie in bed all night without sleeping sometimes so thought I’d try ‘sensitive’ sleep setting and tell it when I start trying to sleep with ‘Begin Sleep Now’.

I did this because it well over simplified my first night (I mean.,, it doesn’t know me when I sleep well. My first nights sleep was awful and said I went to sleep about 3 hours after I actually did) so I thought I’d try setting it in the app.

Prior to this, when I changed my first night’s sleep times it went to the simplified ‘awake, restless, asleep’ but why?

I’ve since turned the sensitivity down in the hope that I’m not actually only getting 4 hours a night. The first night was more like 6 hours (I use another tracking app and also remember how often I wake up as I have bad dreams).. and the second night where I slept 0 hours it says I slept 4 which is wrong as I didn’t fall asleep at all?

I appreciate it’s still learning so doesn’t know what my heart’s doing when I actually sleep (resting is going down and down each day). But what can I do about the accuracy? Is it a waiting game while it collects more data or?
