Mine would no longer show active minutes when I was on the treadmill.  If I walked outside, it worked.  The only way it will detect my activity on the treadmill is if I move my arms like I would on an elliptical.

No arm movement in cooperation with legs no count! Try pushing a grocery cart. If you put both arms on top it will no count, but if you put fitbit hand palm up underneath handle it shoul count the steps! REPEAT SHOULD, the taller you are the more arm swing you have to show!

Yes @ingoingknave49 your tracker is mounted on the wrist. And looks at wrist movements to try and figure out what the legs are doing.

If your arms are not moving in a way that says your legs should be moving. Will Fitbit be able to count leg movements.

@DRoque in the same way, holding on to the cart may not allow steps to be counted. Fitbit has been able to fine tune to catch steps while pushing a baby carriage but they are a lot lighter then a shopping cart.

As for holding on while using a treadmill this habit will considerably reduce caloric burn. Also can cause repetitive leg injury and cause the person to unlearn the art of balancing while out on a free run. I'll let you search out the other 8 problems with holding on.

I would like to know why when I grocery shop my Inspire HR doesn't track my steps.

Is your Fitbit arm holding the carriage, or shopping cart? Try holding the handle loser so the wrist bounces with each step. If the arm is gliding across the floor with the carriage, no steps will be counted.
