The app keeps on telling me to restart my phone to get message and calendar alerts. But it does not work.

To better assist you with this, can you please let me know when was the first time you experienced this issue and how many times since then? Which mobile device are you using with your Charge 2? If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to try the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes.
