Playing hockey versus running stairs

Hi, every time I play hockey my fitbit gets crazy, he counts lifting my hockeystick as climbing stairs. I just had a practise and my flashy new fitbit claims I climbed 27 stairs. Hmmm... what can i do about it?

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about that.  The stairs are based on an altimeter that measures changes in atmospheric pressure, assuming the changes come from changing elevation.  Sometimes if the weather is changing rapidly or it is windy, that can cause rapid enough pressure changes to be interpreted as stairs.

I would guess think that lifting hockeystick would not cause that because it takes a ten foot elevation change to count as as flight of stairs, but I could be wrong.

However note that stairs are a stand-alone statistic that does not affect anything else, including calories, so you don't have to worry about the extra stairs giving you undeserved credit anywhere else.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
