Screen Wake SETTINGS isn't working - Charge 4

I've seen many tutorials and posts in this forum asking to hold the button on the device and go to settings and enable the screen wake, BUT it doesn't work, to be very specific

tapping the device screen doesn't turn it on

tapping both DnD and screen wake settings doesn't turn them on, tapping the sleep option does turn it on and off, so it's not like the screen is not registering the tap, it's something weird with the device OS or the settings

how can I fix this?

I don't quite understand what you are saying about "tapping the sleep option does turn it on and off", but it sounds to me that you could be in sleep mode.  Go to quick settings and turn sleep mode off.  Sleep Mode intentionally prevents wrist turn from waking the screen so you won't be woken at night by the light of an accidental wrist turn.

somehow sleep mode was still turned on, yeah, I was expecting it to be turned off automatically when I wake up, thanks!

It doesn't detect when you wake up and turn off automatically - I suppose that might cause issues when you wake up for a few minutes during the night.  But in the main Settings menu, if you have a regular sleep schedule you can schedule a time for it to automatically turn on at night and then off in the morning.  Alternatively, just do it manually in quick settings each night and morning.
