I haven't been able to see anything on my charge4 watch for about 4 or 5 months. I can't see whether sleep mode is on or what the brightness is so I can't change them. All I can see is a faint fitbit logo. I can check my progress via the app on my phone.
Yes I would also like to buy a new watch but I really need one which shows my heart rate all the time. Not one which dims or goes inexplicably into sleep mode. The time would be useful as well. I don't care about most other info. I have a pacemaker which failed in 2017 and luckily my charge3 alerted me beforehand that my heart rate had suddenly increased by 20 or 30 on all activities and I consulted a cardiologist. I need a watch which will reliably show me my heart rate at all times. Is there one?

I haven’t been able to see my screen for the past month. It is completely black. It is still syncing with my iPhone and need charging after 24 hrs (I get a low charge email). I can’t afford to replace.

I have the same problem, I bought this Charge 4 as a Christmas present for my wife in 2020, and since a couple of month ago it is impossible to read anything on the screen during daylight.
We contacted support and as it is out of warranty period they said there is nothing they can do to fix it. We wanted to pay for technical repair as any other product and they said they don't have a physical repairing service.(this is ridiculous!)
This is really a crappy service on a disposable watch that we have to throw into the trash. There are hundred of ppl complaining on this same problem all over internet and Fitbit don't do anything to solve it (forcing you to buy a new stuff). This is an obvious design flaw and they should take care of it.
This are the legal term of service, and Fitbit states they would even use a refurbished part if possible to repair a product if there isn't any available on some regions.

Fitbit dis an update that has resulted in dark screens. The Fitbit will still record data you can see in the app but the screen will just be black . They can't fix it and tell you to buy a new device

I contacted support they could not fix so offered my 35% off a new one I still cannot afford. This issue is since they did an update to clock faces it is happening to many models of fitbit and affects many many people

Does anyone knows if we can go back to a previous firmware? If support doesn't help, maybe there is any hack out there to load a previous firmware into the watch.
