Smelly wristband? I solved the problem!

I have a very sensitive nose. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the stank out of my HR. I couldn't even sleep with it, because I could smell it on my wrist. When mouthwash, witch hazel, alcohol, and soap didn't work, I consulted my friend, Lisa. She said, "I never have that problem anymore," she said. When I asked her what her secret was, she said, "I shower with mine."

I tried it. IT WORKS. You don't need to deliberately do anything. Just shower as you nornally would. I don't put my wrist directly under the shower head, but other than that, I shower normally. NO STANK!

You're welcome. Thank Lisa. (Oh, and I also take the band off after I shower and wipe it dry, so the moisture doesn't continue to make contact with the sensor.

Though Fitbit recommends not to shower or swim with the trackers.

The Flex 2 is swim proof

The Alta is shower proof (not swim proof)

All other trackers aren't shower proof or swim proof.. when wearing while showering and it gets damaged, it can void the warranty.

Can I swim or shower with my tracker?

Do not swim or shower with your Fitbit tracker.

All Fitbit trackers are water-resistant, which means they are rain-proof and splash-proof and can stand up to even the sweatiest workout. Do not swim or shower with your tracker unless noted below:

  • The Fitbit Flex 2 is swim and shower proof.
  • The Fitbit Alta is shower proof.

Whenever you get your tracker wet, dry it thoroughly before putting it back on.

I'd ignore the recommendations. As long as you are careful and don’t submerge your HR, you’ll be fine. Just be sure to dry it off all the way, inside and out when you get out of the shower. I've been very happy with the results. I'm sure FitBit would like you to upgrade, but no I see no need.:)

@Rockon,

You can feel free to ignore the recommendations, but to put it bluntly, just don't be surprised when Fitbit ignores your requests for service or warranty if you should ever encounter problems.

I know that when I set up my Surge, the Surge 101 page suggested a couple of soap-free cleansers and they're also listed on the product care page:

"To remove build-up of lotions and oils (such as sunscreen, insect repellent and moisturizers) that can be trapped beneath the band, we recommend that you use a soap-free cleanser like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser or Aquanil, rinse thoroughly, and dry well."

I have Aquanil, it works well, but my sense of smell is not as acute as my wife's, though she has never mentioned any odor coming from my tracker.  Have you tried those?

Just my 2¢.

You may be right. I haven't tried Cetaphil, but my friend actually got the recommendation from someone who works at fit bit. His recommendation was just not to submerge the fit bit. Moisture is fine.

My Fitbit fell apart before it stopped working--due to daily wear, not water damage. The clip on the side of the Fitbit fell off, making it impossible to plug into the charger, but my iPad kept on reading the unit until the charge was finally drained. I showered with the Fitbit until the day the clip fell off.

Wipe it down with a baby wipe daily?

Common sense needs to come into play about cleaning your tracker
