I had a very dim screen and couldn't resolve it and noticed that a few people had the same issue on here. I explored my screen settings and found one that said SLEEP and when I pressed it the screen returned to normal.
I often search for how to turn on and off different exercise things (and usually do it wrong) and do not record and must have inadvertently found that when I was tapping to get back to the time once. I do hope that this helps others as it has been very frustrating, especially as my eyesight is not as good as it was.

That "Sleep" is for 'Sleep Mode' which does a few things to prevent interruptions during sleep, such as keeping the screen dim.

@SunsetRunner I hope you are doing fine.
Thank you so much for sharing this tip with the Community. Often times we have encountered that this settings is what is affecting the devices so it great to first read that this solved your issue and that you want to help others sharing this information. Also thank you @JohnnyRow for adding more information about this setting.
I'll be around.
