Sometimes my Fitbit gives a star beside a running lap which was not my fastest lap in that run. Why would it star a slower lap? I thought the star meant best pace

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @GabbieC.
In this case the explanation is very simple; the star will will indicate that was your best time/distance split of your exercise during the entire session or for the total time of the exercise. Meaning that the time and pace was better in comparison to the other splits.
See you later and keep participating in the Fitbit Community.

That doesn't make sense. When I bike my laps are marked at 15-minute intervals and my first lap average speed was 11.4 mph while my second lap was 14.8 mph. The star was on the first lap with it shaded green. The 2nd lap was the faster lap.
