Step count on Charge 3 jumps from 40 steps to 9,000 in a few minutes

When I get up in the morning the steps on my Charge 3 are accurate but the next time I look (a few minutes) the step count has gone to 9,000.  I have rebooted, changed the clock and done everything I have read.  Still happening.  This has been happening for 4 days.
