Been having trouble setting up my fitbit charge HR. fitbit. it gets stuck on "connecting to fitbit" after entering the number I see on my Charge HR. I see others have the same issue. I have iphone 5s, iOS 10 and updated my fitbit app. All I got from tweeting @fitbitsupport was to try a link on setup troubleshoots and to post on this forum. I've tried all the troubleshoots multiple times resetting Fitbit and Phone and still keep getting stock at "connecting to fitbit". This is really frustrating and I think I'm not alone if you look on twitter.

I know this is an old thread - but I also ran into this problem on my iPhone (6s running iOS 14). The app seemed to be stuck on “connecting to Fitbit” forever. Others have mentioned placing your thumb on the screen. For me, what worked was placing my thumb on the home button of my iPhone (which is old enough the have a home button), just like I do to unlock it, or make a payment via ApplePay, or verify that I want to install an app. It might require a finger instead - it’s probably whichever fingerprint the phone has been configured to use for security. As soon as I did that, the Fitbit app progress bar whizzed across the screen and the pairing was successful. I don’t know why this isn’t documented in an obvious place.

I just called with the same problem. Install the latest Fitbit app update on your phone and then it will work.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the fitbit app on my phone and it still doesn't work for me. It is version 2.27.1 updated 9/23/16. I checked the app store, and there's no update since then. Can someone from fitbit please respond to this?

I'm stuck trying to set up my fitbit. I've gotten as far as entering the number on my Charge HR. It only shows 3 numbers and a heart but there are 4 spaces. Help?

Keep holding the button down until you get the 4 digit number

Thanks for your reply. My husband realized that there was a peel-off sticker that needed to be removed in order to see the 4 digit number (duh!). Guess I'm just too old for this stuff 🙂
Thanks again, I appreciate the reply.

We are having the exact same problem trying to setup me wife's new Charge 2. We go through the appropriate process, get to the point of entering the 4 digit pairing code, and then it just spins at 'Connecting to Fitbit...".
Fitbit support made us do all the same troubleshooting to no avail. They finally told us to take it back to the store. Problem is that this is a brand new replacement for one that we already had that quit working. The store is going to quit replacing them at some point. I am wondering if there is mismatch between firmware and app version, OR that something is wrong with my wife's Fitbit account.

Exactly the same issue happened on my device. I was using iphone 7 plus, iOS 11.2, and downloaded my fitbit app today. Stuck here for hours and still cannot finish it.

I was having this same problem, and about to give up, and then instead of killing the app on my iphone, I had held my thumb on the stalled screen for a few seconds, and then it clicked over to the next screen and started updating.
I'd gone through one kill cycle (after waiting 10 minutes,) and I had waited about 3 minutes for the next before thumbing the screen.

I had the same problem. I took over my wife's old fitbit, downlaoded the app to my IPhone 6 &couldn't get the fitbit to connect or sync. I reset the fitbit (HR) several times & each time the Phone app would recognize the ChargeHR but would then go to "connecting to fitbit" & stay there.
I tried hooking it up to my laptop via Bluetooth & it worked but said the ChargeHR needed an upgrade.
I did the upgrade, deleted & readded the ChargeHR to my IPhone and then it started working.
Long story short, upgrade the ChargeHR via a laptop to get it to work with your IPhone. (assuming the S/W version is the issue)

You are a lifesaver! This just worked for me, just held my finger on the app until the dialogue box for pairing popped up then everything proceeded as normal 🙂
many thanks!

I was about to return the fit it charge 2 to the store due to the “connecting to Fitbit” issue after trying everything when I came across this suggestion. After giving this finger trick a go, by keeping my finger on the screen during the “connecting to Fitbit” stage of the setup process (although I also did toggle out of the app by switching to another app and then back into it) and it magically paired with the device. Looks like they’ve got some bug in the Bluetooth pairing process which affects some devices

I held my thumb on the stalled screen where I entered the passcode and it also allowed me to move on after being frozen for several minutes. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been trying to resolve this on my sons fitbit charge 3 to Samsung s6 for a month now! Tried all the suggestions above and none worked, I’ve been trying on and off since 1st December! finally got it tonight, I found a way to clear all data on the Fitbit itself a proper
reset not just turning it on and off I had to tap the screen till I got to settings on the watch face - then I cleared it shut it down , restarted it, unpaired everything on the phone, turned off Bluetooth, shut phone down and restarted it and finally it’s working, and tried again. it’s in the middle of a massive update (it said all along it was the latest update but now it’s syncing it’s obviously not) anyway finally we are paired. Thank god!! Keep persevering guys must be some kind of bug x

I have the same issue with my Surge. It was working well untill few days ago. Now suddenly it wont sync.
It shows the current heart rate etc correctly on the app. So it is connecting but not syncing.
Tried uninstall/install, reconnect etc.
Now I am stuck on the ""Connecting" screen after entering the 4 digits.

I have had my Ionic working well for well over a year yet a couple of weeks ago it just stopped syncing. When I removed it and tried to add it back (iPhone XS with latest IOS) I too am now one of the seemingly very many poor folk permanently stuck on "Connecting To Fitbit"
Have tried everything (resets and reboots of both phone and watch). Nothing works. Although I firmly believe the messages above about holding thumb on screen are ridiculous I even tried that!
I also have a Samsung Tablet that I used to have it synced with. I checked this and watch syncs fine. I removed watch from this device and attempted to add again. This got stuck for a little while at "connecting" but did go through after about 1 min and is now paired and syncing fine.
I seriously believe that the issue is in the FitBit application and is not a device issue.

Just wait 5-15 minutes and it will eventually work, and put you on the Update Screen.

Got a new Fitbit today. Deleted my old one off the site and tried syncing the new. It just goes to getting the 4 numbers in and it keeps saying try again. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it, shut phone down and still nothing 🤨
