I woke up this morning to find my Fitbit at 0 10 mins later went to check the time and it said I had walked 60 steps when I didn't even get out of bed, and its tracking steps as I drive. Hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong as this is furstrating and useless to me if I can't get this fixed

@Amazonlegend Thanks for stopping by! Your tracker will detect your arm movement and will interpret it as steps so this is what it likely happening. Something similar happens while driving, if you go through a bumpy road or your car has a stiff suspension then this can cause the tracker to detect movement and count it as steps. Usually while driving and if you notice some vibration on your car or steering wheel you can try having your tracker a little bit more tight around your wrist and this will help decrease the amount of steps detected. You can also log a driving activity you negate these steps, feel free to follow @Mcore instructions to do so.

Let me know how it goes!

Hey hey hey @Amazonlegend, it is great to see new members around! Robot Very Happy Sometimes, your Charge 2 will count steps even if you are not actually walking because the Fitbit wrist trackers are designed to recognized some of the movements of your arms as steps as my friend @AlvaroFitbit mentioned. The same happens when you are driving, due to the movement of the car (specially on bumpy roads) or due to the speed, your Charge 2 will track some steps. This happens to me very often. My Charge 2 track around 200 to 300 on my way to work. If you would like to get a deeper explanation about how Fitbit trackers work, I suggest you to take a look at this post.

I had the opposite problem. My Charge 2 skipped many steps, which was making it very difficult to reach my 250 steps per hour goal.

I have concluded that step accuracy is very dependent on the shoes you wear!

For an accurate count your shoes must be stably attached to your feet, particularly your heel.

When I wear open-backed sandals, Charge 2 misses many steps.   Sandals with a back-straps produce better results than do open-backed sandals. Athletic shoes produce very accurate step counts and wearing no shoes produces100% step-count accuracy.

I measured accuracy by manually counting my steps and comparing the results to the number on the Charge 2.  Conclusion is don't wear sandals or any shoe that allows foot motion that is independent of the shoe's motion if you want an accurate step count.  Athletic shoe is almost 100% accurate.  Do not wear any shoe that is not firmly attached at the heel.

It is great to see new members aboard @AOFraileyRobot Very Happy Hmmmm I haven't thought that the shoes you wear will affect the accuracy of your steps, specially because the Fitbit wrist trackers calculates most of the steps based on the movement of your arms, however, this is a great tip to take into consideration when comes to accuracy. On the other side, I suggest you to take a look at the information in this post to learn more about how the Charge 2 tracks your data.

Mine has tracked me doing about 250 more steps than I have done whilst I have just been sat at my desk today. If this is normal for the FitBit then what is the point in tracking steps?

This thread was started in 2017 and judging by recent activity, this is clearly an issue that has NOT been addressed properly!

It's 2020, why can't I edit my steps tracking in my dashboard to negate false steps from rolling around in my sleep???

IMPLEMENT PLEASE!

I woke up this morning to loads of notifications that I'd earned various badges. Opened the app and it said that I'd covered 60,000 steps during the night! Pretty frustrating as I'm keeping close tabs on all my stats while I try to get back to my pre-xmas weight.

It happened the same thing to myself. I would say to not to worry about it,
unless it doesn't happen again.

Hello, I cannot tell you exactly why this happens. I had few times the same
problem, but didn't bothered me as it didn't happen often. If you see it's
going too often, I would say contact customer service. Maybe it's a
problem with your fitbit and they can replace it. Best of luck!

Agreed! Even in 2022, almost 2023. I’m not going to wear mine to bed anymore. Apparently I toss and turn a lot. Like 60 steps worth. Lol
