It's not possible to turn of the tracker, it's possible though to turn off the quick view setting.
In the iOS Fitbit App, open the settings page for your tracker. There should be a option to disable quick view. After sync'ing the new setting will be used.

I just plain do not see how the fitbit screen can disturb people so much while sleeping.
You eyes should be closed.

@Dashvt Unfortunately, there is not a way to turn off the screen. If you have "quick view" enabled, you could always turn that feature off to see if that helps you any.

With quick view off, it's possible to turn on the screen by pressing the button or tapping the tracker but won't turn on when turning around while dreaming.

On off, on off, on off, on off, on off. It's not what happens after you fall asleep, it's what's going on while you try to fall asleep with the on, off, on off. I was hoping to use it at night, but I don't think so anymore. And the battery is worn down too quickly.

It's nice to see you guys around the Community @horphmyre @Dashvt @GreginJaxFL! My friends @SunsetRunner and @Kmransom123 are correct!
This sounds like a great idea let me say. We're constantly striving to improve Fitbit products and services, and we very much appreciate all of the input we receive from our customers. The best place to make your voice heard is the Feature Suggestion Board on our community, which our product development teams consult regularly to ensure we're delivering on what our customers need and want.
I've found the suggestion "Turn off quick view when I'm sleeping" that another member has created. If you find that similar of what you'd like to implement, you can vote for the idea and add your comments. Our product team looks forward to reading and incorporating your suggestions into future versions of Fitbit trackers and apps.

Some of us are very light sensitive which means the fitbit lights along with all the other electronic lights in the room disturb our sleep. I've had to put towels over the electronic lights in motel rooms as well as staple the curtains closed and put towels in front of the door to block out outside lights. Some things just don't make sense!

This would be nice to have on Charge 2 @judycruse. I'd recommend up-voting and commenting on Charge 2 LED Dimming/night mode feature suggestion since it is very similar of what you're looking and asking for. I have already voted.
In the meantime, you can turn off the quick view during the nights.
Have a great weekend!

Because it's bright, es.

Bright light still bothers you even with eyelids closed, most people will wake up. Before I fall asleep I sometimes itch my forehead or w/e. Suddenly the light turns on and it's really bright, I mean I sometimes use it as a flashlight if I go down the stairs or smth.
Maybe you fall asleep straight away but I'm a light sleeper and it bothers me, I change position and boom lights on.
I mean dude, there are light based alarm clocks, you're saying they just don't work?

The screen can cause issues because light will mess with sleep patterns even if it is not show in your eyes. It also can cause problem from people who can not sleep through the night which is why the sleep track can be really helpful to track and talk with a doctor about sleep issues.

Fitbit, like the Microsoft Band, needs to allow the user to push a button saying "I am going to sleep now"; and "I am awake now". This way, the screen will automatically turn off so it doesn't disrupt the sleeper as well as someone who might be sleeping with them.

The reason it bothers people so much, is because the light is so BRIGHT in a dark room.
So when you move and can wake you up and blind you.

Very true, but my spouse's eyes aren't always close and it hurts other person/may way up fully.

@Ireland2025 @MracSEE Welcome! It's great to see you around! Thank you for your input. Besides the suggestion my friend @MarreFitbit mentioned some members have said that wearing a sport wristband (big enough so it is comfortable at night) helps avoid this issue while still keeping track of your sleep and heart rate.
Let me know how it goes!

I may not explain it well; but when one sleeps so light, the least bit of light is disturbing. I wouldn’t have believed it if I wasn’t experiencing it.
