Upgrade to Charge 3 from Charge 2?

My Charge 2 is getting close to 3 years old now and the battery is getting rather weak. For various reasons I consider getting a Charge 3 instead of a 4. One reason is that the Charge 3 had masses of extremely poor reviews when it came out and I'm not willing to buy a new product with similar problems.

However, does the 3 actually work properly now: recognize sleep, differentiate between cycling and running, not count steps when driving a car or sleeping, etc? While I'm extremely critical about Fitbit, and especially the (lack of) functionality of the app this seems to be the only device with similar function and small, understated form out there.

One thing you should consider is that Fitbit will make new features exclusive to charge 4 to for marketing reasons.

Otherwise, it looks like the charge 4 is essentially the same device as the charge 3 but with built in GPS (which would be a big deal for me but not everyone).

I recently updated from the original charge to charge 3 (so skipped charge 2). I haven't encountered the bugs you mention, though I have experienced a host of other issues (mainly BT  syncing issues and the app just being crappy in general) but I doubt those will be better in the charge 4.

Yeah, I'm aware that new features won't appear on the 3. The good thing is that there will then likely no integration of google. That's a huge advantage for me. The GPS is useless for me. Either I use a dedicated running app which is really fab, or when I go hiking or cycling I'm often way longer than the 5 hrs the battery is supposed to last out there. And lets be honest, if Fitbit gives me about 1500 extra calories for a 20km stroll then there's no point in having more detaile data anyway: the calorie count will still be utopic, regardless of gps or not. 😄
