I have a 5 year old charge 2 which has a cracked screen and needs daily charging. Can anyone advise on best model to upgrade to? I see that fitbit is now run by google - is it worth getting a google smart watch replacement, will it keep updating historic data?

Hello @Tootypops and welcome to the Community. The best model for you is the one that meets your needs. There are two current trackers, the Charge 6 and the Inspire 3. You mention Google Smartwatch and the current model is the Pixel Watch 3. The Google Store still sells the Sense 2 and Versa 4. Both of these models were released in 2022.
The Inspire 3 is closest to your Charge 2, except that it doesn't have an altimeter. Likewise, the Charge 6 doesn't have an altimeter, but it has hardware that isn't in the Inspire 2 or your Charge 2.
This feature in the Google Store lets you compare three models side by side. Just change the model in the drop down. You mentioned Google smartwatch -- if you use an Android phone, then the error on the page doesn't apply to you. The iOS requirement is 16.4 or newer.
Both the Pixel Watch and Charge 6 require a Google account. The Inspire 3 doesn't, but you will need to migrate some time this year. If you haven't migrated to a Google account, I recommend doing it before setting up any new device. You tap on the gear icon in the upper right of your Fitbit app, then Move account and follow the steps. Help article
