What is the number on friends leaderboard?

So I thought the number on the friends leaderboard were steps so far in the week but it doesn’t match up to what I have done this week. It also doesn’t match up to last weeks total? Does anyone know what this number is? Could it be a weekly average instead?

The total showing is a running total, the previous full 6 days, plus so far today.  So it will keep gradually increasing throughout the day, then jump back  at midnight as it drops one day.

When you click on the avatar to see the average, that seems to be average for last full 6 days, so it stays constant throughout the day, then changes slightly at midnight.  I thought it used to be average for last full 7 days, but same idea, changing at midnight then constant throughout the day.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thank you. So is the only time it will be the same as what I have actually done over the 7 days is at the end of the week? It went back at midnight but still didn’t match how many steps I had done

That's strange. As @JohnnyRow described, the total steps shown on the friends list is today's steps plus the total steps for the previous 6 days. So, at midnight your steps for today will be zero and the number shown will just be the total for the previous 6 days. Does that not work out for you? If not, then note that any manually logged steps, or steps synced from other apps do not count towards the total on the friends tile.
