No, the max heart rate is just used to in calculating your heart rate zones.
Edited to add: Actually, if you exceed your set max heart rate, that just means your set max heart rate was set too low, unless perhaps it's an aFib or other heart arrhythmia incident.
"Max" here means the max your heart can go, not necessarily the max you want it to go.
