my calories do not go to 0 at the end of one day, e.g., the next morning. I seem to have a balance of 450 calories each day.

The calorie counter does zero out at midnight. It then begins estimating calorie usage using your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) which is what your body burns to stay alive. BMR is estimated using your stats (sex, age, weight, height...) You can check accuracy of the BMR estimate by going to various BMR calculators on the web. Any activity calorie usage is then added on top of the BMR.

My calorie counter does not revert to zero at midnight. It goes down to about 440 calories each day.
