Don't be too quick to trust a FitBit over gym equipment.
For me, my Charge HR is way off. Today, for example, it measured an average heart rate of 75 BPM during an intense 30 minute static cycle in the gym. The maximum it recorded was around 160. Since I noticed my FitBit seems to be inaccurate, I check my heart rate several times during my exercise. My heart rate got to around 190 at the peak of my workout and averaged 171 according to both my own manual heart rate counting AND the bike's heart rate monitor agreed.
I've tried all of the 'fixes', such as changing tightness and position of the FitBit. My wrist is always either down at my side or straight out on the handle bars. I've tried cleaning it, resetting it and keeping it dry. It's just not very accurate. Occasionally, I'll finish a workout and it looks accurate, but it's not reliable at all and most of the time it's wrong and there doesn't seem to be a way to make it more accurate.

I rarely depend on my Charge HR for my heart rate. If it's not in the exact right position on the wrist, forget it, it will either lose track of it be way off (in terms of being way too low). Wearing winter gloves and any clothing that has elastic bands at the wrist also pushes it out of position making it impossible to have an accurate measure while doing much outside. I also noticed than when I'm cycling indoor or outdoors, it will lose track of it because of the wrist's position on the bars. Or, I can be out running and it will show me to have 98 bpm when I know it's more in the high 150-160 range. I downloaded a free heart rate app on my phone and the two are pretty accurate when compared to each other.

I agree to Fitbit doesn't seem to work accurately during workouts when heart rate is high. I have also manually tested my heart rate and compared it against the gym equipment and my Fitbit will say my heart rate is in the low-to-mid 70s when I'm panting and barely able to speak it's crazy
