As I attempt to update my charge 2, the device status bar begins to show progress but shortly after beginning it displays a " ! " and the update restarts. This cycle repeats each minute or so. I've tried all of the basic thing but no luck so far

I am having exactly the same issue! It will not get past the 3rd dot what ever I do. Tried restarting, adding new device, power options... nothing ... 😕

With not knowing what phone. On Android I have to move the Fitbit app to the background to keep an update from failing.

Mine did the same thing. Then I noticed when my tablet screen light went out it would stop. So I changed my display screen time to 15 minutes and then it updated.

Got it done! I use a windows 10 laptop and I have been using the Microsoft native fitbit application when I review my dashboard data after syncing it with my android phone. To get the Charge 2 firmware updated I went to the Windows 10 app store and installed the Microsoft Fitbit app onto my laptop. When I opened the app it notified me there was an update available for my Charge 2. I followed the steps which were essentially the same as the phone and it completed the update! When I opened the app on my Android phone there was still the notification to update the Charge 2 firmware. I "uninstalled" the app from my phone then "installed" it again, opened it and all was right in the World once more.

All you had to do was refresh your androids fitbit app @tealaser, the app will then have been told the tracker was updated. Or you could have logged out/in.
