Active minutes and burned calories too high

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I’m having a problem that a lot of people with this device seem to be having. My calories burned and active minutes are WAY too high. It’s 4:30 pm and I haven’t even taken 2000 steps today and my inspire HR is saying I’ve burned almost 2000 calories and have had 41 active minutes which is impossible. I know that the bmr is taken into consideration but even so my bmr is roughly 1830 so 1830/24= Roughly  76.25 calories burned every hour it’s  halfway past the 16th hour of the day so 76.25 • 16.5 = 1220 calories. My fit bit says I’ve burned 1962 calories today so that means 724 I’ve supposedly burnt through exercise but that’s impossible to have somebody with the not even 2000 steps I’ve taken today. I’ve tried factory reset regular reset and unsyncing and nomenclature of it has helped.

@Emileeflynn That could happen if for whatever reason the HR recorded was way too high. Could you post your daily heart rate chart? Also, swipe down on the main screen of your Inspire and tap the Settings app.  Swipe up until you see  heart rate and tap to toggle OFF/ON. I would also recommend restarting your tracker.

Yeah I kinda figured out on my own the hr Tracker was what was making it too high because I tried restarting it and resetting it to factory settings and disconnecting it from my account and reactivating it none of that worked.  When I turned it off and that seemed to work. But I think it’s outrageous that I paid 30 extra dollars for a feature that I really can’t even use if it’s going to give me such false results. I’m hoping there can and will be a software update to fix this because I know this device in particular is new. But I am still very displeased and frustrated

@Emileeflynn It should not behave this way. I would try toggling OFF and back ON and rebooting and see what happens. Can you post some screenshots? If it's still way too high (HR), you might need to contact Customer Support to guide you through the next steps.

This is calories burned vs steps taken vs heart rate just looking at it I know it seems to ad up but there’s no way I burned almost 4000 calories in one day that I only walked 2.75 miles when I only burn about 3100 on days I walk 6 miles when I don’t have the hr on. Thank you for helping I think I will also contact customer support. I’m just trying really hard to become healthier right now and having something I can rely on to Be accurate is important

I think maybe the heart rate was registering too high because there no way I was anywhere near cardio on a simple walk

@Emileeflynn Looking at the chart you posted, the HR doesn't seem outrageously high... I am wondering about 2 things:

  1. Can you double check the info that you typed into your Fitbit profile - your weight, height and age in particular. If there's an error that could explain why you get such weird results.
  2. Is Inspire your first Fitbit device. Mainly, I'm wondering if you have just created fitbit account. Do you have any other fitbit tracker to compare the results to? I am asking because I have seen several reports on the forum on too high calories recorded. But, it seems like this was rather associated with random accounts and miscalculated data than trackers themselves. Might be worth a try creating a brand new account and linking the inspire with it to see how it goes. Just an idea.

Yes I had a charge HR before this, is still be using that but I wore it in the shower by accident and it stopped syncing so I got this. This is a screen shot from a Day I was wearing the charge hr with almost the same level of activity and actually about 700 more steps. I’ve had my Fitbit account since September and all of my info is correct

@Emileeflynn this heart rate data does not look so much different. I am wondering if it's a problem on fitbit end. I mean with the calculations. But I have Inspire HR and never noticed that issue. On the other hand, I use it only for my indoor workouts, so I do not have daily recordings. If you really want to test it, you might need to create a second account to which you will link your inspire, then wear both trackers CHarge and Inspire and compare the data coming from both accounts. I did that myself before for Charge 2 and Versa. 😄 Also, Inspire is a brand new tracker. Fitbit is known for tweaking their algorithms within first few months when they get data from broader population.

I would definitely test it but I don’t have my charge hr anymore :/. I am totally taking into consideration that this device is so new and hoping they can come out with a software update or customer service can help me. When just looking at the charts they do all seem to add up but again when I do the math with my bmr and then take the left over burned calories there’s no way I could burn that much with the activity I’ve done. Im almost at a loss because I really feel like I can’t even trust this anymore without having the hr off which is a shame that I paid extra but I’m just going to keep the heart rate feature off for now and see what customer support has to say. Thanks again

@Emileeflynn In that case, I would really attempt creating a new account and testing if you get the same results. I will be honest with the BMR of 1800 (I'm assuming you calculated it yourself/online), there's no way you would get 4000 kcal burn unless you really pushed it. I know you don't want to lose the account history but this way you could at least see if it's associated with this particular account. Also, perhaps removing and linking back the tracker with your old fitbit account could help. I rarely recommend this option as sometimes it can go awry.

If customer support can’t help me I’ll see if making a new account will! Thanks again!  🙂

Just as a final update I did some thinking and I wondered if my device was acting up because when I opened it up for the first time I didn’t let it charge up completely and hadn’t let it charge completely just a few minutes here and there. So I plugged it in and let it charge all the way up to 100 then I reset and factory reset. The calories burned still seems a slight bit high but nothing like what it was before. I’ve also decided to keep the hr turned off unless I’m working out. I’m much more at ease than I was yesterday 😂

Hello, is there any update on the subject? I got the device my self and am experiencing the same ridiculous readings.

No not yet. I had to turn the hr feature off to get better readings. So I’ll just be thinking about the 30$ I wasted until they come out with an update for the device. Sorry
