Advice on how to use Inspire 2 in pool to record swim

I'm new to fitbit and have had my Inspire 2 only for a couple of days. One reason I got it is to track my laps and time in the swimming pool. I'm wondering how I should use it in the pool to track my swimming time accurately. What I'm worried about is turning on the water lock and not being able to then indicate when it should start tracking my actual swim time. I take a shower before I go into the pool and take a couple of minutes to get to my lane and actually start swimming. During this time I assume the water lock should be on but I don't want it to track time yet, because I'm not excersing yet. If the wat lock is on, how do I then indicate when I actually start to swim, which is when I want it to track my time? Same when I'm done: my excercise ends when my final lap ends, but then I still need to get out of the pool and take a shower. How can I make the excersise time stop without unlocking the water lock to avoid damaging the device? I would like to have accurate swim time.
