Here we go again......sigh!
Ok....I usually check my sleep data upon waking and before I even get out of bed. Typically AND PRIOR to this last update my average heart rate while sleeping and my resting heart rate would be the same....which only makes sense. For example, last night I fell asleep about 10:30pm. I woke up at 7:40am. The sleep data showed my average bpm to be 57. When I open my resting heart rate....which would have covered midnight until 7:40am....it shows 64 bpm. From midnight until 7:40am I got up one time for about 5min to let my puppy out. While yes my heart rate increased for that 5 minutes and maybe took a couple more minutes to come back down, it wasn't enough to change my average heart rate.....so why the big difference? I've worn HR style Fitbit for almost 5 years and it's always been the same upon waking.....until this last update. What got changed? I've always felt that Fitbit heart rate info at non-exercising conditions to be fairly accurate and reliable. During exercise I take the info with a grain of salt. If I've now lost confidence in the low end of heart rate info. I will have lost all confidence in Fitbit. BTW....the resting heart rate graph is atrocious!!!

I couldn't follow that whole thing, but I did find at least 2 assumptions that are not correct:
When I open my resting heart rate....which would have covered midnight until 7:40am.. It sounds like you are assuming resting heart rate calculation, like other stats, resets at midnight each day; not true
my average heart rate while sleeping and my resting heart rate would be the same.. You should want your sleeping heart rate to be below your resting heart rate most of the night. If they exactly coincided, that would be a strange coincidence.

Good morning. Ok....so the RHR is tracked daily. When would it reset if not midnight? It sure appears to per the graph....
Plus my point is during sleep my sleep rate and my resting rate would be the same....as there is no other resting data for it to use but the time asleep.
But even if I'm wrong on my "assumptions" why the change now???

I did not say RHR is tracker daily. Here is what Fitbit says about how RHR is calculated:
Anything else is just your assumption.
IF you want to read more about RHR, see How do I track heart rate with my Fitbit device? and scroll down to "What's resting heart rate?"
Now as to you belief RHR and sleeping heart rate are the same, this screen shot should destroy that theory.

Interesting info, but wait, what? Your average sleeping heart rate is 49 bpm? Has it always been that way? Or how did you get it that low? At what point is it no longer a good thing?
