Automatic exercise recognition with inspire clip

Does the automatic exercise recognition work with the inspire clip? Went for a walk with the bracelet, and it automatically recorded it as exercise.  Then I got the clip and did the same walk, and it did not.

Hi @terry59 No, when trackers are worn on the body (clip or pocket) they count the steps, but cant do any of their higher functions like recognising an activity.

@terry59   I think @NellyG might be incorrect.  There is nothing in the Inspire Manual that talks about this.  But I have a question.  When you put your Inspire in its clip. did you change the setting from On Wrist to On Clip?  You press and hold the button for about 2 seconds.  Swipe up to get to the Wrist/Clip setting.  Press the button lightly to return to the clock face.

I see the auto recognition of some activities as a huge plus over the Fitbit One.  I would be disappointed if this did not happen in the On Clip setting.

Yes. I have changed it to the clip setting. I wondered if it doesn't work
because the fitbit is not against your skin when it's in the clip.

That's what I feared. I loved the auto recognition but liked the
discreetness of the clip. Before I got the clip, I had been putting the
band around my ankle to get a more accurate step count. Now with shorts I
was hoping not to have the band around my ankle. I guess I'll have to
decide which is more important to me each time. Thank you.

Yes, in spite of what @LZeeW says, I am still sure that Smart Track is set up to work on the wrist only. It will not work well on your ankle or your body. I understand the clip setting makes adjustments to the step counting metrics to make it more accurate for use in the clip, but has nothing to do with smart track. As you say, you need to decide what you want measured each time you wear it.

The ankle is where I first received the auto recognition notification. So
it seems to work for me. I tend to walk while holding things, so my arm
isn't always moving so it wasn't getting an accurate step count. At least
not in the past with my previous flex.

Yes, it might pick up walk and perhaps run, on your ankle but it wont pick up more complex activities like bike, swimming, elliptical, sport etc.

Oh ok. I input those type of activities manually. I like how it
recognized my walking as exercise on those days when that was my only
exercise.

Regarding your inquiry, SmartTrack should work even if your Inspire is in clip mode. If this feature isn't working, I recommend restarting the device by following the instructions provided in the help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?.

I reset the fitbit, and the exercise recognition worked with the clip.

 I had the same issue where Smart Track is not working and I tried the restart to resolve the issue.  It is still not auto recognizing my approximately hour long walk.  It also isn't auto recognizing sleep.  the only sleep it has registered was when it was sitting still at work for two hours the other morning.  Is there anything else that I can do to fix these things

To work on sleep you need to make sure it is not on clip mode. Only works
on wrist mode. When you reset the fitbit, did you get the smiley face? If
not, you aren't holding the button long enough.

Two things, on other posts it said the sleep would work on clip mode. I’ll
try to change it tonight to see, but I wanted to call out that difference
in explanation. And yes I held it until the smiley face came on and I even
cleared all data once too.

I just noticed that the last day that my walk was recognized was Monday, the day I reset it.  Yesterday and this morning it did not.  Wonder if I need to restart every day.  It seems to be sporadic.

I changed mine from clip mode to wrist and it still isn’t tracking my
sleep. What else can I try? This is very disappointing

Is it snug on your wrist? How long have you had it?
