I’ve just replaced my old Fitbit one with a shiny new inspire hr. 2 things I’ve noticed after a week: 1) it doesn’t tell me how many stairs I’ve climbed, and more importantly 2) the calories burned seem astronomical. I know from years of using my One that if I achieve my 15,000 steps per day I’m generally gonna burn 3200-3400 calories. The inspire hr is recording around 4500 calories! Anybody else upgraded and found this? I don’t trust that in the slightest.

I can't explain the calories but the stairs is an easy - but unfortunate - one. The Inspire HR doesn't have the necessary altimeter built in to enable stair tracking; See: List of Fitbit products - Wikipedia
With the calories, I might expect some differences as it now has access to your heart rate so activity that elevates your heart rate without involving lots of steps will lead to a higher calories count. But, your numbers seem just weird. Have you checked that your profile settings haven't accidentally changed in the migration to the Inspire HR (age, height, weight...)?

Hi Steve, yes I’ve checked all my stats, no change, just my goals. To be fair I only use the calorie burn as a signpost I’m going the right way, but still it’s thrown me!

I wonder if the problem is with the heart rate tracking. It would be interesting to see what happens if you turn it off in the settings app. Then, the only difference would be that one tracker is on your wrist, the other clipped to your clothes. If the step counts seem roughly the same as before, I would expect the calories burned to be roughly the same.

That’s not a bad shout, I’m gonna do that now while it’s early. Keep you posted!

Ok, so i spoke to the Support team. Couple of things i should've considered: 1, the Inspire HR is a lot more sensitive to activity than the One, ie heart monitoring etc so it will report more calorie burning. 2, i've been wearing it on a clip on my waist as opposed to on my wrist, so its not getting accurate data.
So at midnight tonight i'm going to put it on my wrist and do a full day to see where i'm at. I was a little naive in replacing the One with the Inspire HR, different beast entirely by all accounts. Its been a few years, Fitbits have changed!
