Fitbit, what is with this radically different heart rate? When I plug it into my watch that I’m riding my bike, my heart rate is always high. When I just ride, and it gets auto recognized, my heart rate is significantly lower. And this is the same route! I do the same bike commute every day. I have tons more examples, but here you see the SAME bike ride, only difference is I hit zone minutes if I tell my watch I’m biking before I start vs no zone minutes if I let it auto-track or tell it afterwards that I rode.

No response yet. Here is my ride yesterday. Both ways I let it auto-detect I was riding. I noticed that if I tell my watch I’m exercising before I start, it seems to give me freebie zone minutes. I mean, if I forget to tell it I’m finished, it’ll congratulate me for being in cardio zone when I’m literally just standing in the elevator.
Based on that I thought maybe it’s more accurate if I let it detect my heart rate and don’t bother telling the watch what I’m doing. But no, yesterday I was riding hard, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest I tried counting my heart rate and all I can say is it was fast. There’s no way I was below zones for the majority of these rides.
Please help me understand. If I tell it I’m biking, does it compensate somehow for bike movement to give me an accurate heart rate? If it auto-detects, does the bike movement interfere with getting an accurate heart rate? (I get same stats regardless of how tight or loose the watch is).
Today my readiness score is 99 based on low activity yesterday. But that’s only because I let it auto-detect so it thinks I wasn’t working hard. In reality my legs are exhausted. If I’d told my watch what I was doing, I would have had 80 to 110 zone minutes yesterday. Since I didn’t tell it, I ended with just 18 zone minutes.

This is still a question I have. I see Fitbit moderators answering other questions. Is there a way to get this question answered?
