Distance not recorded on bike ride

I’ve noticed that when I go on a bike ride the app doesn’t tell me how far I’ve been. GPS and mobile data is turned on on my phone. Any ideas? Thanks

Same here, it will record until the end of the street or so and cut out, leaving me with a log with something like '200 meters, 33mins'

Hi @Louise1504 and @Pibzoria. Welcome on board. It's nice to see new members around.

@Louise1504, thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well to make sure GPS and mobile data are turn on. Just to clarify, do you mean that the distance doesn't appear on the Fitbit app? If so, may I know your phone's model and OS version? In the meantime, please confirm the following:

  1. GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.
  2. The location services are enable within your privacy settings.
  3. You have a strong Internet signal (Mobile Data) during your activity.
  4. The Fitbit app is updated to the latest version.

@Pibzoria, since you mention that the distance wasn't recorded accurately, did you use the exercise app in the Inspire HR? Was the GPS connected before starting the activity? Did your Inspire HR go out from the exercise app in the middle of your activity?

Keep me posted.

@LizzyFitbit

Yes from the Inspire HR itself, as the phone app does not have the option to begin a bike ride, just walk/hike etc.

It was still running the timer when I finished, so it did log things like time and heart rate etc. Afterwards I started a few more test runs with it, and found it was struggling to remain connected, this was with the Unihertz Atom and then a Motorola G4+ with a fresh install of the app.

I've made sure any battery saving helpers are off now and will give it a test walking about tomorrow. (where I can also see the screen without being run over)

@LizzyFitbit  Right, 20 minute walk around done, and it has tracked the whole thing (with a little poking at the start to connect)

I found and disabled an option in the battery settings of 'Standby intelligent power saving' which does some great things normally. When the phone is locked it reduces power by throttling data, and disabling location services.

This kind of adds up with how it was logging location for just a couple of minutes originally before going to sleep and letting the watch carry on with counting time and heartrate.

I'd already whitelisted fitbit in the power save manager, the power saving option was a new one to me lol

Hi @Pibzoria, I'm glad to hear from you.

Thanks for sharing more details about this situation, as well for testing your device today. I'm glad to hear that your walk activity was recorded correctly, and thanks for letting me know the option found in the battery settings. I'm sure others will find this very helpful when using their devices to record GPS data. Now, you can test it on a bike ride to see how it goes. Happy stepping!

See you around.

Mine didn’t either - in fact it shut down throughout the ride and didn’t record anything - my phone couldn’t even link to it ...,,    So what’s the point ??

Hi @Paufow21. It's nice to see a new face around. I'm sorry for the delay in my response.

I'm sorry that your Inspire HR wasn't able to connect with your phone's GPS. I understand your position as this feature should be working fine. Since you mentioned that your device shutdown during your exercise, please try restarting it to refresh its performance. Once that is done, make sure the Fitbit app is updated in your phone and check the information posted above.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Lizzie- I’m afraid it wasn’t the only issue i had with it. It wouldn’t
start to begin with at all, i contacted the amazon help desk and they got
me up and running. Then i had the cycle incident which I reported which
happened on the Sunday. I fully charged it on Tuesday and got on the
treadmill Wednesday morning to find i had shut down again. I put it onto
charge again and found it had no charge left in it whatsoever. I deemed it
unfit for purpose and sent it back. I am now Fitbit less.
