Face scratched and no longer synching

I bought a new fitbit from amazon a couple of months ago and about 2 months ago it stopped syncing automatically with my phone. I now need to swipe to have the phone sync which not nearly as convenient. If that was not bad enough, I later scratch the face plate after i brushed up against the wall of a pool. I was surprised as it was a light brush but the screen couldn't handle it. 

 

Can this be fixed? IS this covered by warranty? I am frustrated to be having these issues given I just bought the unit.  Let me know if there is a solution or if I should just throw the watch out (it is hard to read with the scratches) and try a new brand.
