FitBit Inspire counts EITHER steps or distance, but not both?

Grumble:  It appears that my Inspire will allow me to record and display EITHER my steps or distance, but not both.  My Zip recorded and displayed both.  Is there no way to adjust settings on the Inspire so both appear?

On your phone display, have you tried tapping the 'Edit' button near top right of 'Today' screen and see if there is a distance icon grayed out.  If so, tap the plus sign with it to add it to the display.

I've never seen it ask for choice of steps or distance.  I'd be interested if you can explain exactly how you got to the place where it asks that.

I'm not clear on whether you are talking about recording, or about displaying; and if displaying, where?

It is recording both your steps and distance and they are both displayed on the phone app.  You can also see both by scrolling down from clock face to 'Today' section.

I wonder if you are really talking about what is displayed on the clock face of the Inspire.  If so, have you checked the other clock faces to see if there is one that displays both at the same time, if that is what you want?  Some clock face might change the stat displayed by tapping on it.

I’m speaking of displaying, not recording.

When I check my Fitbit Inspire activity on my iPhone (not on the device itself), the display on the iPhone shows Steps only, but not Distance. I went to my information in my profile at Fitbit.com, and there is a choice of what to display — Steps, or Distance — but not both. (However, today I got my emailed “weekly report” from Fitbit, it showed both steps and distance for the past week, so I do eventually get to see my distance via the weekly report.)

On the other hand, my husband’s Fitbit Zip (handed down from me), shows both steps and distance so far that day, up to date to the moment…and the display on his iPhone also shows both steps and distance.

I never even look at the face of my Inspire because I keep it in a tight little cloth bag safety-pinned to my clothes at the top of my thigh. But I just took it out of the bag and looked at it, and the ONLY things shown on the face of the Inspire are the current time, and battery status — have to switch back and forth for lack of face space, of course … no other choices.

??? Thanks!

THANK YOU! For some reason I’d never even noticed the little light blue “Edit” link at the upper right! Did as you told me, and all is well!

The place where I got the idea I couldn’t change it was in my profile settings where it asked me to choose what my main goal was (a pulldown choice list). I thought I’d seen only steps or distance as my choices, but there were two more I now see. But by the time I looked again, I’d already used that “Edit” link and everything is cool … both steps AND distance now appear on my iPhone display, and that’s just what I wanted!

I’m FIXED, thanks to you!

I'm pleased you got it set now.

Actually I think that 'Edit' button is a fairly recent addition.  There was another way to edit it before, but now I don't remember what it was.

Normally the top of the phone app should show steps, active minutes, distance, calories, and floors unless you have removed one (I myself removed floors).  But for some reason I don't understand, sometimes some of them get unintentionally removed.

The "main" goal is the one that gives the celebration when you reach it.
