Fitbit still counts my steps during exercise activity, how do I fix this?

I use my fitbit inspire 2 to track my calories burned. I go dancing about 3x a week, and I wear my fitbit during this activity because I want it to track my heart rate, but I notice the fitbit will track my dancing hours as walking steps. i.e. it will log 16,000 steps, but when I look at my phone's step count, it should only be around 6000. For this reason I think my fitbit is overestimating my calories burned. I want to get a more accurate picture of my calories burned.

- Is there a way to pause step count during exercise activities?
- Should I just turn off "auto-detect" for walking and manually enter my steps?

Seems like a pretty big feature for fitbit not to fix.

Your argument seems to be based on calorie burn is based on step count.  That is not true.  Calorie burn is based on heart rate.  When you heart rate is raised, you get increased calorie burn, whether or not you are getting steps.

There is no way to pause step counter.  But it would make no sense to not count steps during exercise. Those are still steps.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
