I have an Inspire HR. I bought a new band that has chain links so I removed the old band and started putting the new one on and realized the movements of my flipping and maneuvering it to fit the new band was adding steps. I tried holding down the little button on the side but that didn't turn it off. When that didn't work, I did log out of the Fitbit app, hoping that stopped it from calculating. I think that worked, but I'm not sure. I was flipping the Fitbit around quite a bit removing links from the new band and retrying the fit over and over so with all that motion I would think it would have added more steps/miles/calories than what it shows but I'm not sure what the values were before I started trying to change the band.
If logging out of the app doesn't suspend the counting, how do I go about doing that for future reference? Is there a way to find out what the values were at a certain time - like I know I hadn't started with the new band until after 10:00 AM, can I find what my actual steps and so forth were at that time?

@ChiGSD The only way to temporarily suspend tracking is to take off the device. New users, like yourself, tend to be very focused on very accurate step counts. In the long run, there are times when steps are over counted and times when they are under counted. You will take steps while your Inspire HR is charging. You will miss steps if you are pushing a shopping cart, because you lose the wrist/arm motion.
These kinds of steps all balance out in the end.
