How does the Inspire HR compare to the Alta HR?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I currently have an Alta HR and like the form factor and features very much, though I do wish the display were a bit better. In bright sunlight, it can be hard to see.

How does the Inspire HR compare? It seems cheaper than the Alta HR, though does have some nice features such as usable in the pool.

Can anyone compare the two? I don't want to take a step down and FitBit doesn't spell out the differences very well.

@Heather-S how is battery life for you?

Best Answer

@fegriffith Mine seems about 4 days with everything on (notifications, heart rate, all-day sync).  I might try to turn all-day sync off and see if that improves it a little.  But otherwise, that's not bad.  4 days is fine for me since I work a sedentary desk job and can charge it while I sit here and work.

Anyone have any idea when pre orders ship for Australia for the Inspire HR? I haven't had a Fitbit since the Charge HR the strap of which continuously broke. Hopefully the Inspire HR is more durable and does better. Judging by the reviews I have seen it looks like a good device.

Ok all, I have completed my sunlight test and found the Inspire HR screen to be very difficult to see in direct sunlight.

@DramaQueenDiva - thank you for that. It's  a pity that it isn't great. I'm assuming that it's not much different than the Alta HR.

Does anyone know if the Charge 3 is any better in sunlight?

Hi @markand, I have the Charge 3 and it's only slightly better than the Alta HR and Inspire HR. The Ionic, Versa, and Versa Lite seem to be the best ones in direct sunlight.

You get a bit more with Inspire HR 🙂 Here is a comparison between Alta HR and Inspire HR:

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can completely turn off the HR and the light on the Inspire HR? I like all the features that lets me tell it i am on treadmill or biking, but the HR bothers my wrist and hand. I have a charge 2 and i usually keep the HR off. Would be great if the regular Inspire had all the features except heart rate.. "hint hint" 🙂

Thanks

@katpawsx2 - there's the Inspire, which doesn't have the Heart Rate monitor. Because it lacks the HR tracking, it lacks a number of other features. You can go to https://www.fitbit.com/compare and compare the Inspire to Inspire HR.

Edit: From re-reading your message, I see you know about the Inspire. I think the features you want most likely rely on the HR as input.

@markand - Thanks. I really like the features on the HR version, I just want to be able to turn the HR completely off like i can on my Charge 2.

Thanks for your help.

I believe Fitbit wanted to make the gap difference between low product line (Alta => Inspire) and high product line (Charge 3) of their trackers a bit bigger.

Although is true that Inspire HR has few HW nice added features coming from Charge 3(waterproof, Connected GPS (smartphone)) which could make it more attractive than Alta HR, and also including some long time demanded SW features for Alta HR (like all kind of messages app notifications), Breath coach (like Charge3); the materials used are lower end (low quality plastic compared with previous Alta HR housing metal (especially the Black color called "GunMetal" which was simply awesome in a so slim tracker!)), more bulky (thicker and 1.2mm wider than previous Alta HR).

Alta HR is over (Fitbit discontinued it already, and that is something users we cannot change), but still find it: Sleek, Slim, looks nicer on (small) wrists, original design for a tracker, and not a common (low end digital) regular commodity watch.

If you cannot find an Alta HR in the shops, I would rather better recommend you to buy a Charge 3, cause I dont find anymore "Original" the Inspire HR design. But this is my humble opinion after having both on my hands in real life.

Hi all!

Great to see so much interest in Inspire and Inspire HR on the forums. Just thought I would jump in here to clarify a few things.

@mini35 A dongle would be needed to sync on a PC unless it has built-in Bluetooth. However, I can confirm that a dongle is not included in the packaging for Inspire and Inspire HR.

@katpawsx2 Great question! It is possible to disable HR on your Inspire HR. You can find the toggle located in the Settings app by swiping down on the screen. Though it is worth noting that the PurePulse lights may still flash when HR is disabled.

@StrongLucky @markand @Torakaru Thanks for your input. I am sure folks visiting this thread have found your posts helpful!

Hope this is helpful! Feel free to let me know if you have additional questions. Robot Happy

I am curious if there have been any improvements in the heart rate Pure Pulse technology.  I like the look of the Inspire, but I have been putting off upgrading until the problems reading the heart rate when sweaty are fixed.

I have to laugh that they have finally given up the fiction that they track your stairs!  I just gave up paying attention to the stair count on the Charge HR, it just isn't ever correct.

Is the Inspire easier to read outdoors than the Alta?

There isn't an official weight listed for the Inspire. Based on your use, does the Inspire feel measurably lighter? That and the lack of a button are my main dislikes with my Alta HR which I otherwise love. Thanks!

Ha, I had completely forgotten that I had posted this in March.  I asked for an Inspire for my birthday and just got it!

Alta tracks floors climbed. Inspire doesn’t.

I have loved the Alta HR, but I wanted a larger face. I bought the Inspire HR because it had a larger face, but wasn’t too big. There are 2 reasons I like the Alta HR better. 1. The strap is easy to change because you just slide it off and on.The Inspire HR is very difficult because it doesn’t slide. It’s awkward and takes awhile to figure out. If you lose the little pin that goes into a hole you can’t see, you get frustrated and get your Alta HR back.

2.  A 2” charger comes with it. No kidding, it’s 2 inches short. You have to buy a 3.3 ft cord online. The chargers don’t snap in. They use a magnet. Sometimes it stays on and sometimes it doesn’t.
Keep your Alta HR. Inspire HR is not worth the switch.

So will the dongle from my Alta HR work with the Inspire HR?  Also, comment about battery life.... seems it doesn't last too long?  So why not?
