I have to push button now to see the time. How can I make it so my Fitbit will automatically show me the time when I lift my arm again?

Press side button for a few seconds to get to Quick Settings.  Look for 'Screen Wake' and tap to toggle on or off.

I tried that and the screen wake popped up, but when I tap it, nothing happened.  I kept on tapping it until it finally changed.  Now, if I can figure out why one side of screen is dim and other side is lit up, I will be in business.

If you can't turn Screen Wake off, it is probably that you are in Sleep Mode, set in same Quick Settings area.  But it sound like you got past that step.
