I have a new fitbit and the steps were way off. It recorded the 16 steps to my bathroom this morning as 116. I solved it by doing a soft reset - hooking it up to the charger and holding the button for 5 seconds until the screen went blank and a smiley face came up. Then I tightened my band a bit, even though instructions say to keep it loose when not exercising. The steps are completely accurate now. I hope this helps someone!

Even though the accuracy of actual steps is good, unfortunately it counted over 2,000 steps while I was a passenger in a car (not waving my arms around and not on a bumpy road) and it also credited me with 200 steps while I was sleeping. Since my research shows that all wrist trackers give steps while driving, including the Apple watch, I guess I will keep this and take it off during long drives, but I hope they can improve the accuracy in the future.

I tried the soft reset yesterday morning and it didn't work. I had 167 steps to the bathroom this morning on the fitbit and my phone was 10. This is crazy how far off it is. I bought it Saturday and everyday I've noticed it to be way off. I also tried the tightening the band but that hasn't worked either. Please HELP before I take it back.

I'm finding that my step count is accurate. If I walk 25 steps, it adds 25 steps. But it gives me steps when I toss and turn in my sleep. Are you seeing steps before you even get out of bed? That might be it. Sometimes I get about 100 steps while sleeping, so I just ignore those since I like all the other info it gives me. If I'm on a long drive, I take off the watch so it won't add driving "steps." I was initially frustrated with this, but I read reviews of all the other Fitbits, Garmin, and Apple Watch, and all wrist trackers add steps while sleeping and driving, so it's not like you can change it for a different brand at this point. I just know that at the end of the day, there's an extra 100 steps or so on the watch.
