Inspire 2 constantly switching into settings

I've recently bought the Inspire 2 and it's driving me insane.  It's seems that wrist movement knocks the side button so it's continually switching in and out of settings.  It vibrates each time it does it (but despite hours of trying I can't get the thing to vibrate when I get a phone call!) so it is going off all day and sometimes it results in settings being changed, e.g. switching into DND mode which then stops screen wake working.

I've tried wearing it much further up my wrist and that helps a bit but it inevitably slips down so then I have an annoying floppy watch as well as all the other problems!  Is there any other solution?

Accepted Solutions

I spoke to support today about this issue and they've given me a workaround

Have the display you most want to see on your Fitbit visible on your screen, e.g. for me it's the time and number of steps

Go into settings and make sure screen wake is on - I had turned this off as it was causing extra vibrations

In the same area of settings turn on water lock.  This will lock the side buttons so your wrist can't knock them.  While in water lock, screen wake still works so you can lift your wrist to see the time and steps or whatever your preferred view is.  You can't scroll through the view while in water lock to see other data, you'll only see whatever view you selected before turning on water lock

I've tested notification for calls and reminders to move and they still work and display on the screen.

You have to double tap the face of your Fitbit to turn off water lock so that shouldn't happen accidentally.

If you want to put your Fitbit into sleep mode, you'd have to undo water lock, put it in sleep mode and redo water lock.  So that's a bit of a pain to do at night and undo each morning.  I think I'll stick with the bright lights during the night 🙂

So not a perfect solution but it does make the device much more usable

Hi @Welshhat, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared in your post, I understand how frustrating this matter can be for you. To move forward and better assist you, can you please let me know if your clothes are the ones that are activating the button of your Inspire 2 or is your hand? Have you tried to use the device on the other hand? How often you experience this situation?

Looking forward to your reply.

I'm having the same issue as @Welshhat.  I only wear my watch on my left (non-dom) hand and the sensor is being triggered by the skin on the top of my hand/arm when I move my wrist in certain directions.  Received this fitbit on Tuesday and it has been annoying me on multiple times an hour while at work.  Today, I didn't know that this movement had activated sleep mode and I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why my screen wake wasn't triggering.

Another person having the same issue as the two above.

The side buttons are so sensitive the slightest movement of the wrist causes it to go into the menu and vibrate with minimal skin contact. It's driving me crazy. Did no one actually test this thing?

I am having the same problem, I wear my Fitbit on my right hand and it goes into DND whenever the Fitbit is pinched or sits in the corner of my wrist. Is there a way to turn off this feature?

I had to turn off the auto wake up mode as it kept flicking through modes, even when I had nothing at all touching it. My arm straight and no sleeves. My old one never did this. Have you updated your Fitbit’s?

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for looking into this.  It is wrist movement that is causing the problem rather than clothing.  I'm left handed so normally wear my Fitbit on my right wrist but I did try swapping to the left.  However, you can press to the left or right of the Fitbit to go into settings so a change of wrist doesn't actually make a difference.

It happens all day long and through the night.  It's happening so frequently, I no longer bother even looking at the display to see if it's buzzing for a genuine reason (phone call, hourly step reminder) vs buzzing because it's gone into settings.

Thanks

Hi @MsNic - I've switched off screen wake and along with my Fitbit moved up my arm (rather than on my wrist), it definitely doesn't go into settings and vibrate as much as it did before so thanks for that suggestion.

@RicardoFitbit We shouldn't really have to live with this compromise.  Without screen wake, we lose functionality, e.g. you can't see phone call notifications, reminders to move or the time without pressing the side buttons.  I also want to be able to wear my Fitbit on my wrist, where it's comfortable, not have to keep trying to keep it up my arm

Seriously annoying. The skin on the hand plus the skin on the wrist touching both sensors makes it turn on vibrate to settings every single time. Can we turn one side sensor off? Anything?

Same issue on brand new Inspire 2 bought today.  Driving me nutz and considering returning it.

I’m having the same issue, and it bugs me because I’m missing calls when it accidentally turns on sleep or DND. My old inspire HR didn’t have this issue. Hope you have a fix for this soon.

I just bought the Fitbit Inspire 2 yesterday. The same thing is happening to me and it is driving me insane. I am planning on returning it if I can't find a solution.

Same issue!

my husband bought the Inspire 2 for me for Christmas. Haven’t even worn it 24hr and I’m beyond annoyed with how sensitive the side buttons are. I’m disappointed because the slim design of this device is great! But, unless they can put an update out to give the ability to reduce the sensitivity, I may have to return this. Scooting it away from my wrist and up my arm is awkward and uncomfortable... If I can’t wear it on my wrist like every other device out there, then what’s the point?

First FitBit in 8+ years I’ve been disappointed with.

I am having the same issue with my new Inspire 2 going into DND mode.  It is my hand and wrist causing this to happen.  I got it new today and have worn it for about 12 hours and this has happened at least 8 times.  It is very annoying and am considering returning this and going back to my Alta.

Same as all the others are complaining about! If there is no fix then it will be returned! My husband bought this for me for Christmas and I’m SOOOOO over it!
please tell me there is something that can be done!
not my clothing as I done wear any long sleeves.

It is the new "Double Touch" design. It activates for everyone when the back of their hand touches the Inspire 2 causing it to also touch their wrist, which then activates the button. It's a rather significant design flaw that should have been caught, reported, & corrected before being mass produced.

Yes... it’s just awful. Looks like mine is going back. It’s too bad because I loved my last Fitbit.
I can’t believe this was not addressed and fixed before it was released.

Also seriously considering returning. I love the slim design, but constantly opening settings when I use my hand for almost anything is just not reasonable.

Best Answer

Right! Also it drains the battery super fast. I went with this one because is so nice and small and isn’t to big for my tiny wrists!! Ugh! Hubby is going to be so upset.

Best Answer

Me too.  It shuts off when I move my arm in my sleep as well so that I can't track my sleep.  When I tilt my wrist the skin from my wrist bumps the side button and pushes the other side against my arm causing it to think I'm intentionally pushing the button sensors.  If I keep my arm straight, with no movement at all, I might be able to keep it from being triggered.  Not going to work out.
