Just by reading through at a glance there seems to be some older topics addressing this, but the distance counter on my Fitbit is extremely inaccurate when I run. I generally run 4 or 5 times a week at a course that has a 1 mile loop, and the distance is never close to correct. Just this morning, I ran 4 laps and it counted under 3 miles. I want to throw this thing in the river, or as far from me as possible, or possibly run it over with my car repeatedly, but since it was a gift from my girlfriend i've stuck it out and am just using it as a stopwatch now. Has anyone actually made any changes in the settings that worked? Or are my runner friends correct when they say they Fitbit is trash for being able to track the correct distance?

@BoKnows85 Thanks for stopping by!
Sorry to hear about this. Your device uses the number of steps and stride length to calculate the distance. You can improve the accuracy by measuring and logging your stride length. Feel free to use these instructions to do this.
Hope this helps.

The inaccuracy of any fitness tracker is a waste of time for any person wanting to benefit from exercise. I believe this is not being changed because the companies would rather have us feel good rather than show us the truth
