Inspire 2 has 30 minute gap during exercise.

I have an Inspire 2. When I start an exercise (biking or hiking), the fitbit successfully connects to my Android phone to use its GPS and correctly starts measuring the distance and creating a GPS track. However, at some point during the exercise, it stops measuring distance for 30 minutes and then starts working again. When I look at the track, there is just a straight line connecting the point prior and the point after the 30 minute hiccup. So, both my distance and track are not correct.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Please make sure that the Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background. ( Even with the phone's display off)>
The setting can be found at the app battery consumption menu on your phone.

@JPeterO , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message

  • Check that GPS is turned on for the exercise. Note that only exercises where you cover physical distance use GPS. For more information, see How do I turn on GPS for an exercise on my Fitbit device?
  • Make sure that your phone is within 30 feet of your device.
  • Note that heavily wooded areas and tall buildings can increase the time it takes to connect to GPS satellites.

Yes, GPS is turned on (settings -> Phone GPS on) and the phone is with me so within a few feet of the Fitbit - and I make sure that it tells me connected before I start.

As I noted, I'm using an Android, not an iOS phone.

This may be the solution.  The 30 mile bike ride I did today was completely recorded - it had a full GPS track with no gaps or 30 minute missing pieces.  I still want to do more outdoor exercises to confirm the suggestion about making sure the Fitbit app will run in the background works.  I will post what I find in a few days.

After logging several activities (both hiking and cycling), it does appear that the suggestion to allow the Fitbit app to run in the background fixes the issue.  I also found another setting related to this - under battery, advanced settings, optimize battery use, I set it to "Don't optimize" for Fitbit. This is in addition to the setting under Apps, App Management, Fitbit, Battery usage - allow background activity.  Don't know if both are needed, but I have them both set so background activity won't be compromised.

I did have one workout where it missed 30 minutes of the track, but I'm going to say that was a fluke since all the others have 100% of their GPS track.
