Inspire 2 inaccurate sleep tracking

Hello! @YojanaFitbit

This is not a super recent thread...so I don't know if you will get this.

But this issue is still ongoing in April 2023. I'm using an Inspire 2 since November 2022 and the tracking sleep start time was very accurate for a while but recently (like the past few weeks or so) it is not. I'm seeing others comment on this in the forum. I did the hard restart and I always think after I get up.

Are the engineers doing anything to correct this issue?

This is the main reason I started with the fitbit. If it's not going to be corrected I will likely be moving on to another device.

Moderator edit: clarified subject.

Hi @RonieS .  It does seem as thought something has started going wrong with the Inspire 2 during the last couple weeks.  I have been having the same thing happen.  I have been editing the start times, and usually additional data shows up that is "credible" looking.  But there were two days when that didn't work, and all of the sleep stage details were lost and could not be recovered.

I have a feeling that this will not be getting fixed, given that the company has moved on to the Inspire 3 and appears to be losing interest in Fitbit as a whole.  This is very unfortunate because the Fitbit sleep algorithm seems to do a lot better than most of the others.  Apple watches are better than Fitbit.

@Runner0621 thanks!

I've chatted with a couple reps and they all suggest the same things....restart, wear position, and edit.

But now I have a case # and will follow up and let them know the restart did not correct the issue.

I wound consider upgrading to inspire 3, but I'm seeing the same kind of issues in here for that device as well. So appears it's not specific to inspire 2.

Let's see if @YojanaFitbit replies with some insight from engineering.

PS - I'm not a jogger lol!!

Unfortunately, I think you are correct in thinking that the same issue will be found in other models of Fitbit.  It's disappointing for me, as this thin "band" form factor is about the only thing I can wear on my wrist without pain.  I think the Oura 3 (with newly improved sleep algorithm) might be another wearable that does well with sleep stages.  This Youtube channel is a place to see comparisons.  He compares them to results from an at-home EEG device (worn at the same time, saying that polysomnography would be more accurate but it's not as accessible.

I received your response. At least I know I'm not alone. I have stopped
wearing it at night for that reason. It is also inaccurate in tracking my
Zone minutes. Yesterday, it gave me no cardio during 2 water aerobics
classes, but gave me.26 cardio zone minutes for sitting on the couch and
eating!!! I hope they get all these issues fixed.

Yes, it is still going on! Thank you for posting. I came across this thread to find a fix because most recently my FitBit has been messing up what time I go to sleep. Last night, May3-4, 2023, I went to bed at 9:05 pm and fell asleep by 9:30 pm. I know this because I was using a 30-minute sleep meditation and did not hear the end of it. Then I woke up at 12:45 am to use the bathroom and fell back asleep. The tracker showed I went to sleep at 12:45 am and got up at the correct time. What happened to 9:30 pm to 12:45 am? I synced before going to bed. I’ve been using FitBit for more than 5 years and Inspire 2 for at least 2 years and this has never happened before now. I haven’t been doing anything differently.

It's good to see you around the community @tgalban2.

Thanks for all the details provided about the situation with your Inspire 2.

I don't know if you are still experiencing the inaccurate sleep. Please let me know if you have followed these steps:

Keep in mind that there are some factors that may prevent your tracker from recording your sleep. Please make sure of the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device as described in this help article.
  • If you slept for less than 1 hour for sleep patterns or less than 3 hours for sleep stages.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

If you haven't done so already, please try to complete a restart procedure following the steps listed here.

In addition, please wear your device on your non-dominant hand and monitor it for the next few days. In the meantime, for the nights that don't have sleep data, you can manually log your sleep by going to the Fitbit app, tapping on the "+" icon next to the sleep tile > Add Sleep Log and entering your details.
