Ive been wearing the Inspire 2 for 2 years and noticed whenever I swim in the pool it goes flat straight away, has trouble connecting to charger without scrubbing the contacts of the fitbit. Last night I swam in the ocean and by the time I got home it fritzed right out, went flat and is now dead. I don't think they are waterproof like they said.

Before anything else, I'd like to clarify that your tracker is water-resistant to 50 meters, and it can stand up to the sweatiest of workouts. That being said, may I know if you feel a vibration when pressing the button? If not, please give a try to the following steps and monitor its behavior afterward:
