Inspire 2 is tracking too many calories

It’s now 8pm and my Fitbit seems to think I’ve already burned 2027 calories today. My BMR is 1550 so my Fitbit thinks I’ve burnt 477 today of active calories? I’ve been gardening this afternoon and up and down the stairs quite a bit but surely I haven’t burned 477 calories outside of my BMR? I also only consume 1500 calories a day. Please can someone assist.

That doesn't seem at all unreasonable to me; in fact it seems quite low.  So you would have burned 1550 calories if you stayed in bed all day.  As soon as you even sat up in bed, you are burning above your BMR.  Your BMR is the minimum you need to stay alive.  Anything above lying down you are above your BMR.  Don't think it has to be some sort of aerobic exercise. Any normal daily activity, just sitting or standing, is burning above your BMR.  If you want to analyze it exactly, look at your calorie burn chart.  It shows your calories burned in 15 minute intervals.  You can see exactly you calorie burn while you were asleep and what it was at each 15 minute interval during your day.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thanks Johnny. So I’m basing this on wanting to be in a calorie deficit. My BMR being 1550 and me only consuming 1500 calories a day, plus my Fitbit now telling me (at 10pm) that I’ve burnt 740 active calories means I’m in a 740 calorie deficit - it just seems a bit mad given I’ve not done a workout of any sort. I can’t make sense of it I’m afraid. Plus I do this every day so by deficit standards I should be twig by now! Unless I’m calculating this wrong?

I'm not saying anything above your 1500 BMR is necessarily "Active Calories".  That's up to you how you want to use a definition in a set of terminology.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

As stated I’m trying to use my Fitbit for the sake of a weight loss process using a calorie deficit. If you stick to consuming the calories that your BMR states, you’ll maintain your current weight. Anything below you’ll be in a deficit and subsequently lose weight. I’m assuming the Fitbit is malfunctioning due to the stats showing that apparently I’ve burnt over 700 calories today outside of my BMR even thought I’ve not done any work outs whatsoever. It’s seemingly a redundant gadget for those wanting to monitor calories burnt outside of their BMR.

when exactly would my “active calories start”? The watch is pretty useless in my opinion. I’ll be returning tomorrow unless someone can shed some light on it.
