My brand new Inspire 2 appears to be tracking way more steps than I am making. I already checked the previous topics; both my wrist setting and height setting are accurate. However, yesterday, I was traveling in the car most of the day, yet my fit bit tracked over 6,000 steps. I tested it and just shaking my hand adds steps! Is there another setting I can change? Is there something wrong with my device?
I was just gifted this and have never used a fit bit before.

Hi there, @Ambassador1. Welcome on board. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Inspire 2.
Do you have another app connected to your Fitbit account that could might be adding more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.
Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.
Know that you can negate the extra steps in the Fitbit app. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hi there, @Animabee. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Inspire 2 before reaching out.
Please not wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms. Fitbit has worked hard to make sure that our devices do not pick up false steps or activity recordings while driving. Unless you're driving in a car with a very stiff transmission or on bumpy roads, your device should not give you false readings. Also, if you place it in a surface with something vibrating or if you make hard hand movements. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking the article How accurate are Fitbit devices?
However, there are ways you can prevent this from happening while you drive:
1. You can plug your tracker into the charging cable while you are driving -- the Fitbit will not count steps while it is charging.
2. You can log the driving manually by following the steps in this article.
With the information provided above, please bear in mind that it's not possible to delete steps and floors, but you can achieve the same result by negating them.

I find the tracker generally very sensitive and accept that it probably shows twice as many steps as I actually take a day, so I can get some indication from it. What annoys me is that two or three times a week at 8 in the evening it suddenly adds 8-14 thousand steps to my step count. You can see on the daily breakdown when a sudden spike of steps is added.

I tried logging driving, but it doesn’t seem to be saving that as an activity. It disappears after a few seconds and hasn’t effected my step count at all.

I have a hard time understanding why anyone would use these products if they are that inaccurate. It actually logged steps while I was sleeping as it was simultaneously also tracking that I was sleeping. Something is seriously wrong with that.

It finally stayed, but it didn’t adjust my steps at all. It shows that I drove and stepped during that time. Also, the last 2 days I didn’t even have it on, it’s just in my bag and somehow I hit 45 minutes of high heart rate exercise with almost 5,000 steps! How can it be tracking a heart rate without being on my body? This can’t be right. Why would anyone use this if it is this inaccurate?!

Hi Marre
No I don't have any other apps for steps or any other fitness things. I'm not that bothered about the accuracy of the thing, I bought the entry level one to see if it was worth getting a better one, so it's a learning curve.
I'm more interested in the sleep statistics than anything else. I know to take 8K or so off if it's too large a number, and I divide by 2 to get a reasonable idea of what I have done.
Thanks
Allison
