Inspire 2 not tracking sleep stages

Guys I’m desperate. I got inspire 2 almost solely to track my sleep. After the first night I was so happy! Seeing different stages REM, light sleep, times I was awake etc. From the second night onwards I only get you slept x amount of hours. And how long it took me to go to sleep but nothing like the first night. I have premium account. What’s going on?

@speedoworks Hi there. Thank you for the details mentioned. I see where your disappointment is coming from.

I was able to see that you already have a case with our Support team, please continue the communication through email, they'll be happy to help.

@DaveTilly Hi there. Thank you for the screenshot attached and the details shared. Check out the following scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys - an update. I originally posted my Sleep Stages problem back on 1/26/21 (reprinted below including screenshot). Today it's 4/26/21 and I'm sorry to say I haven't found a solution yet. As a reminder: my issue is that, while I actually DO get a Sleep Score, my "stages" are clearly messed up. I just get "light" sleep line showing all night long, with no Deep or REM at all. HR and awake/asleep appear to be working fine.

Of the ~90 nights I've used my Inspire2, I've had about 5 total where the Stages look correct (ie: Deep and Rem stages show on the graph.) I've had another 5 nights or so over these past 3 months where I just get "Basic Sleep Detials" but that's to be expected every once in awhile due to arm position etc.  I'm starting to think maybe I have a defective device?

My workaround is to add 3 points to my Sleep Score b/c that seems a conservative approximation of how many points I'm missing out on. But I would dearly love to get this issue solved.

I have not done a CHAT with Customer Support but I'm wondering : is it worth it? Do they actually have a solution or should I just replace this Inspire2?

Premium member here. Same/similar problem. I received a new Inspire2 last week (replacing an AltaHR). I got 2 days of normal Sleep Score & Stages results, then on thursday I got a Sleep Score but my stages graph was just a long flat light blue line- 100% Light sleep with one wakeup (when our 4 year old came into our bedroom.) 5:45 hrs -- 100% light sleep, No Deep, No REM. I thought 'that's weird" but it's been just the same for every single night since then. I am getting the sleep score, but NO stages other than "Light" and "Awake". I sleep about 6 hrs/night with about 10-15 min awake

I have done all the usual checks/fixes: HR is on and I get HR throughout the day. Not using "begin sleep". Devices is set for "on wrist" Device has consistently been at more than 50% charge, I haven't been using the app to start sleep and I've tried 2-3 finger widths above my wrist bone. I also turned of HR then turned it back on. I also restarted my Inspire2. I have tried both "Sensitive" and "Normal" sleep settings. What on earth is going on? Never seen this before. I

The Inspire 2 is anything but inspiring especially its purported "Sleep Stages" application which seldom works on my Inspire 2 despite the fact that's I've done everything suggested to correct it's failure to perform.  I was even sent a new device that gave me sleep stages reports for about four days  before stopping and reverting back to Fitbit Flex  simplified sleep analytics.  I have loaded numerous firmware / software updates that would give me the Fitbit Premium Sleep Stages reports once or twice and then back to the simplified version.   So very glad I'm not actually paying for Fitbit Premium because it certainly isn't worth it.  I would love to respond to all the comments but the last time I did that I was notified by Fitbit that wasn't allowed and they had removed most of my comments.  Truth hurts, I guess, even in the Corporate world.....

Bummer. So it sounds like you stuck with the Inspire2? I thought maybe I had received a defective Inspire2 but now it sounds like this is an issue with the entire model?

The next question is what model does not have this issue? I prefer something closer to a band than a watch. The Inspire2 really is my preferred form factor so I feel I'd better at least try a replacement unit before giving up.

@Coeurdeleon Thank you for getting back. I truly appreciate the detailed information shared and the image attached.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. It's odd what you're getting in your sleep graph. In this case, it's best to continue the communication with our Support team, they'll further investigate and provide the options available.

@speedoworks Hi there. Thank you for sharing that you've received a replacement Inspire 2. I'd like you to make sure that your tracker is set to On Wrist and Heart Rate is turned on in the Settings app, this to ensure that your sleep stages are tracked. If you're still experiencing this, let me know if this is happening every day?

Learn more about it in this article How do I get started with Fitbit Inspire 2?

Hope this helps.

If it takes 90 min why when I go to bed at 11:30 is my inspire2 telling me I went at 6:30am. And if you get up to use the bathroom a few times and the 90 min time frame has to start over then what good is it?

This Inspire 2 is really just too bloody complicated. Very easy to accidentally change settings. Some things like DND are not explained. The sleep mode on and off is just silly I have been battling to get this to reactivate for 3 days. Please provide clearer explanations about what to do to fix this problem with a clear step by step.

@fallingup13 Hi there. Thanks for your feedback, your comments are appreciated.

In this case, let's change the sleep sensitivity of your Inspire 2 to sensitive. This mode will allow to record nearly all movements as time spent restless or awake. Also, double check that you're following these tips to wear your tracker.

@Reewink Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. To avoid unintentional button presses, try wearing it higher on the wrist or looser, check out this article to find more information.

In regards to settings such as DND or Sleep mode, they will prevent your tracker from getting notifications or reminders. Also, certain settings will change while in Sleep mode, notifications and reminders are muted, the screen brightness is set to dim and the screen stays dark when you turn your wrist.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

My inspire 2 only tracks my sleep once every few days. It either says no data or gives the wrong data. My C pap will say 4 or 5 hours and my fit bit will say one hour and a few minutes or nothing.

@DaveTilly tap on a night in question.

A screen with a sleep graph will come up.

Now read the note under this graph.

The sleep function has never worked for me, at least not automatically.  Every morning I wake up and sync my fitbit, and either it shows no sleep at all or maybe a few minutes of sleep which of course is not correct.  I've found that if I DELETE the sleep log for that day and manually enter a sleep log, it will correctly display my sleep patterns for the night.  It's a hassle but it works.  For example, when I woke up today and synced, it showed only 31 minutes of sleep for the night.  I deleted it and then in the app I clicked on "Add Sleep Log", and added the time I went to bed as the start time, and the time I woke up as the end time.  And then it correctly displayed my sleep pattern.  Hope this helps.

I am having the same problems...my inspire 2 just stopped tracking sleep quality and just shows the simple view. Your stock answers are not helpful. I know about the length of time. I know about how/where to wear it. It's charged. It used to work regularly, then it didn't. Now it doesn't work at all. How about some software analysis because as experienced users if various fitbit trackers, I would expect more from you.

That also just happened to me this week. It said I went to bed at 3:15 AM. Believe me, that was not accurate.

Has never worked consistently for me. This version has been horrible compared to older products from Fitbit that I have used. Seems to be very glitchy.

Any solution to this? My is the same

@dabl79 and @DayleCarm Hi there.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. Your feedback and comments are appreciated, this helps us to continue improving.

It sounds like your Inspire 2 isn't tracking your sleep stages and the correct time you're going to bed. Let's try restarting your Inspire 2, checking that the settings mentioned previously are turned off. You could try changing the sleep sensitivity to sensitive, in this mode, your device records nearly all movements as time spent restless or awake.

Hope this helps.

Also remember that your Fitbit app, may also have insight into why your seeing simple sleep. This is usually found under the simple sleep graph.

Thanks Rich. This thread has become a kind of catch-all for Inspire2 sleep tracking problems. In my case, as my original post says, I *am* getting a Sleep Score most nights, but the graph shows ~99 % Light Sleep with a bit of wake-up activity. There is zero Deep or REM sleep. This was never the case on prior Alta HR and I don't think I just had a massive change in my sleep. Once in awhile Deep and REM will show but it's maybe twice a month. I have tried all of the suggested fixes (restarting, using sensitive sleep, changing wrists, making the band looser, making the band tighter) but nothing has solved the issue to date. I have just come to accept it and add ÷3 to my nightly score to account for the persistent error. But it's a bummer.

Rich, you seem to be talking about the "why did I get Basic sleep details" message that comes up occasionally. Getting basic sleep details occasionally is to be expected due to hand position etc. I get that message occasionally and I'm not worried about it. I do wish my Inspire2 would detect my sleep stages consistently the way my Alta HR used to.

Thanks for your response. I have restarted it several times. This week: Wed-no score, Thursday & Friday nights - got a score. Last night, I got a score but it registers as waking up at 1:46.... for the whole night! That's not accurate. It's like it loses track of the day/time. That has also happened before. I'm very disappointed.

No, no solution. Restarting doesn't help. Various problems...it's disappointingly inconsistent.

When I first asked about this problem I thought I was the only one. I’ve since learned that I’m not. It appears that the Fitbit2 sleep tracked just does not work as it should, 🤯 going by the many complaints.

I’ve tried the different ideas mentioned and nothing has helped. It’s time to throw out my Fitbit ($$) and look for something else.

I didn’t get sleep stages and score since 10 days ago. Don’t know how to resolve.
