Inspire 2 not tracking sleep

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had my new Inspire 2 for two nights and one nap, and so far it has done the following:
1-Overnight: Detected nothing at all. I added the hours via the app and it tracked the sleep/awake time correctly. No sleep score.

2-Nap: Detected nothing. I added the hours via the app again. No sleep score.

3-Overnight: Detected half the night. I adjusted the hours via the app, but the "time asleep" still registers only half the night. (...however the sleep score appears to have updated.)

Is this thing trying to learn or something, or does it just not work? The whole reason I got this thing is because the button fell off my old Fitbit One, which still tracks sleep perfectly, it's just annoying having to find something pointy to poke it with. The Inspire 2 is so far...not an improvement on that.

Hi, @AranelS , unlike the One, the Inspire 2 is designed to track your sleep automatically so it is important not to start your sleep manually.  In order to detect sleep automatically it will need to get a consistent heart rate reading, so it is worth checking how you wear your Fitbit. It should not be tight, but it should not be so loose that it flops around on your wrist.  Also you won’t get a sleep score unless it detects at least 3 hours of sleep, and only sleep automatically detected automatically will be factored in the sleep score.

Having said all that, as you have only had it for two nights I think you might find that it soon is working well.  For various reasons (usually because of inconsistent HR reading or very low battery) sleep score does not appear, but having had mine for several years I would say that this happens to me only very infrequently.

I hope this helps!

I did read that it is supposed to start automatically, so I have not been starting it manually. It's attached securely--there's no where for  it to go, because the shape of it just barely sits on top of my wrist to start with. Could having narrow wrists affect how well the HR is detected? It doesn't seem to have any gaps in HR detection.

I don't really care about the sleep score--it's the time asleep that I want to track. Honestly, I would not mind having to activate sleep tracking manually (as long as I can do it easily from the device itself)--I just need it to be reliable.

I have only had my Inspire 2 a week or so, but also had problems with tracking. I searched and found an article that solved it for me. I will see if I can find it again and post the link, but for now here are the two things that caught my attention. 1) if you put lotion on your wrist, it can interfere with the sensors, so it is necessary to clean them. I just used a slightly damp cloth. 2) it can help to wear your fitbit on the inside of your wrist where the skin is thinner. I have done both of those things, and my fitbit is now tracking my sleep beautifully. Good luck.

Hi there, @AranelS and @stephcatsThank you for reaching out to the Community@Julia_G That information is really helpful, thank you!

Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Inspire 2 before reaching out. We‘re taking your comments and sentiments in regards to our products and services into consideration.

I recommend considering the following in order to get sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

I also would like you to double check that your Fitbit Inspire 2 is set to "On Wrist". This is because when your tracker is set to "On Clip" certain features are turned off including heart-rate tracking, automatic exercise tracking, Active Zone minutes and Water Lock.

To check this, press and hold the buttons on Inspire 2 and choose "On Wrist'" setting to ensure these features are turned on.

Hope this helps.
