My daughter has been bought an inspire HR FIT BIT for her birthday as she wanted all the things I have on my charge3 and not just steps and sleep which is provided on the Ace for kids, but Can I put her Fitbit on my account and her use hers at the same time as mine or do I have to set her up a completely different account as I don’t want her to receive the notifications from my phone etc I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance x

No, you need separate accounts and if she is under 13 you need to set up a family account and then a child account for her if she is under 13 years old. If she is, she can only set up an Ace under that account. This is a Federal law, not a Fitbit requirement.

That is not entirely a correct statement. The FitBit TOS states:
"Persons under the age of 13, or any higher minimum age in the jurisdiction where that person resides, are not permitted to access or use the Fitbit Service unless their parent has consented in accordance with applicable law. Additionally, you cannot access or use the Fitbit Service if you are barred from receiving services under applicable law or have previously been suspended or removed from the Fitbit Service."
Federal Law, under COPPA (16 CFR Part 312), requires parental permission for children under the age of 13. If the parent/guardian chooses to allow their child to have an account, they can.
She has a choice;
She can create a "Family Account" under her guardian account for her child and be limited to the FitBit Ace/Ace2 only requirement,
or
She can create a second account to allow usage of the Inspire HR, being fully aware of the tracking that FitBit does.

I am having the same question. The Inspire was the same price as the Ace for kids, so I opted for the one with more options (noraml right?!).
I do want to create an account for my 11 yo, but it’s not letting me, directing me to My family, but then it only has Ace as an option.
so I guess I have to find a way arround it?

@RachelRo
the only way to get around it is by setting up an account for them with different age. Which is ridiculous considering how many types of Fitbit there are out there and I don’t know about yours but my daughter wanted everything that mine did not just steps and sleep which is all the ace provides for the same price. I hope Fitbit figures it out soon xxx

Did you get this resolved? It seems if you have a child account they can still only have the ace type. Do I need to set up a new account?

This is DUMB! Who at fitbit thought "Let's make child accounts only work with the Ace line and for all other devices parents will have to lie about their children's age"?!?

I agree with scke. This is dumb and stupid. I can understand having to set up a family account for kids under 13, but too limit them to just the ace! That is ridiculous. I had to return the Inspire HR for the Ace that my daughter is complaining about because of the lack of features!
If Fitbit wants to compete with all the other big players in this market, they better fix only being able to choose an Ace when signing kids up. It is very frustrating.

I agree, this is idiotic. It's one thing to require kids to open account through their parents, but limiting the device that can be used? What's the reasoning behind that?
P.S. If Ace didn't look like a Fisher Price toy, my son would actually consider it. But those "fun" colors turned him off right away, so Inspire was the only one to consider, size-wise.

I totally agree. My child got Fitbit Inspire as a gift and only to find out during setup that we have to return it. We will not be getting an Ace because she doesn't like how it looks. Agree on having a family account for kids but limiting the Fitbit model is stupid.

Totally agree. This is nonsensical. I'm considering retuning my son's after discovering this during setup.
@Fitbit: you are losing business over this.

I agree. The Fitbit ace 2 looks like a Tomy My First Fitness tracker. We liked the look of the Ace, but it’s no longer available and now I know it had less features I’m glad we didn’t get it. We went for the inspire as it looked like the first Ace but with all the features. Trust me, my two aren’t interested in calorie counting, but the ability to set multiple alarms, receive notifications and reminders track activities, stay organised and plan movement breaks, sleep track etc was a great idea. So they’ve saved their pocket money and to their delight found the inspire on offer on Amazon this week, complete with nicely colour watch straps from an accessories seller. Now I find I can’t set up a kids account for them. Come on Fitbit. Really? Give them the option of the chunky baby watch with googly eyes, or a sensible fitness tracking device, which one do you think they’d choose.

Just got my inspire HRs for my kids birthdays! Yay!
Then ran into this issue. Utterly absurd 🤬

The ace 2 and the inspire are the same size and shape. The bands are interchangeable. So buying an ace 2 and an inspire band would solve the issue of the "fun" colors. My sister actually did the opposite. She has the inspire, but liked the protection of the ace 2 band. So she wears a kids band with her inspire.

Thanks for all your replies. I was losing my mind trying to set-up the Inspire for my 10 year old son. I was ready to throw it out the window!
