Inspire HR: Step accuracy

Hello,

I am using my Inspire HR only a few days, but find that the step count is way off. Only today I put the Inspire to charge and already the count show 1.662 steps. (1.32KM) We do not have a small house, but to walk that many steps will not happen. This was my confirmation of suspecting the same during the past few days. Since I used the Inspire, it gives me consistent way more steps, and distance, than I actually did. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks.

I purchased my HR yesterday and put it on for the first time this morning. I specifically purchased it as it is suppose to be swim proof and that is my method of exercising. I put on HR on my non-dominant wrist, drove to the pool and it showed I had walked over 1100 steps in a 10 minute drive. After reading all the posts regarding the in-accurate step count, I took my HR off and will be returning it today.

check your step distance, i also got mine yesterday driving from work to home 36km  it started at an already excessive  695 -3500!! checking my setting noticed stride length was 0.8cm i/o 80cm!.  Now that I have reset this it is counting correctly. Perhaps being such a short distance also made every single movement a step?

Try it, mine has now settled down and is counting correctly. Hope this solves for you.

Thanks for this, I didn't even realize that was a thing that could be set!  I had a fitbit a long time ago but I forgot all about this.

For those of you who want to manually calculate your stride length, read this fitbit article.

I think the post about stride-length is important. Could that be the reason so many are having trouble with the number of steps?

I've been following this thread for awhile.  For the last 2 weeks including vacation, I have worn my Inspire HR on a clip, with the HR feature turned off, and I found my step count to seem very accurate.  I didn't really need HR, I only got it b/c I had a good deal on it at work and I thought it might be interesting to see, but now that I see the accuracy issues you all are having, I'm sticking to wearing mine in the Clip always and without HR.  This advice might not help those of you who really wanted HR or prefer to wear it as a bracelet, but I thought I'd share in case anyone would like to try to make it worth their money as a clip.

I'm curious if anyone else has tested it as a clip and found it works better (or not).  So let me know 🙂

PS mine has never counted steps while driving.  Strange how many of you have commented that yours has done that.

Perhaps. I have just checked mine and it was set to 75cm, which is about right. However I guess that whoever coded the app may have mistaken mm for cm and perhaps the code recognises an apparent 75cm as an actual 75mm. It's been known to happen - the infamous San Diego 4th July Fireworks show is a case in point. The person who programmed the display mistook 1 second for 1 minute. Result the entire show which should have been 15 - 20 minutes long got fired in 25 seconds!

I believed to have set my stride length correctly yesterday. When checking today it was 0.8 cm.

What I may not have done yesterday was select:

"SET MY OWN" and left it on "Set Automatically"?

Since miday today it is fine (even though gained an excessive amount of teeny tiny steps this morning 😉

BTW these settings can be found under your Personal Info details NOT the Inspire Device settings.

How does one measure the personal stride?

Thanks but I did that months ago – my stride is 26” – and it overcounts my

steps by a ridiculous amount daily. Because of that I don’t really trust the

calories burned stats either.

I purchased a less expensive tracker from Amazon – arrived yesterday. I

wore it yesterday and today and so far the steps and distance appear much

more realistic. The calorie count from the steps seems low but the HR is right on.

Still hoping and waiting (but not holding my breath) for a recall\refund from Fitbit

on the Inspire models. I have the HR. 😊

Hi @LouisianaGal@Treetop10@Asb51@Lonefred@Azurik777@Erinnibhaoil@SaneCatLady@vivasuzi and @SunsetRunner, it's nice to see you around. @Gl31dy, @RR24, @Azurik777, @MrsGee5, @Savethewhales, @ccobble, @Kahama67. Welcome to the Community Forums. I'm sorry for my delayed response.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your feedback about the Inspire HR. I see where are you coming from, and I'm sorry that you've experienced issues with its accuracy. Our team often reviews the Community to work on our devices based on your comments. While I don't have a time frame when the issue with the Inspire HR counting too many steps will be resolved, they'll work to identify a solution as quickly as possible. I'll make sure to update this thread once I have more details from our team about this situation.

For the ones that haven't done so, I'll recommend to try the steps posted by @YojanaFitbit before, as they have helped other users.

If you have another question, feel free to reply.

I have yet to see any suggestions from anyone from Fitbit resolve his issue.
A software reengineering - not an update - is what is needed here.

Better yet a factory recall because the Inspire versions have not worked
since they were taken out of the box for the very first time!!!

Thank you!

My Inspire tracked 3000 steps, for one mile, on a smooth road, with a truck whose transmission is anything but tight.  I put it in drive, I went, I gained 3000 miles.  I received my Inspire for Mother's Day.   My daughter bought it in March, as I had told her I wanted it.  She shops early, just like people do on Christmas.  Now, her 100.00 gift is sitting dead in my jewelry box.  Useless.  Waiting for this company to determine when they are going to admit there is a BIG issue.  Maybe honor these people who have receipts for the on line purchase.  Honor them when you can verify with the account when our Inspires were first activated.  Make the customers happy who are not able to return their Inspire to a store.  Give customer service instead of dragging out "we don't know when" but "why not try this" or "we gave you 5 new watch faces"  I just want the darn thing to work.  I am a senior citizen, hoping you get "that elusive fix, while I can still walk"

Fitbit says your transmission is stiff and you are driving on bumpy roads.  LOL  That is what they told me when mine tracked 3000 steps for one mile.

You may be sleep walking. Ask Fitbit.  😉

Hi Yojana

Why yes, since you said to let you know if there is anything you can do in the meantime......Well, I have had my Inspire since May, now July. How about Fitbit verifying that I did not set up my Inspire until May when I received it as a Mothers Day gift. Regardless that it was bought at the end of March for said gift and sat in its lonely box until it was given to me.  I wanted to EXCHANGE it and actually give Fitbit more money.  Now I sit here with a useless piece of merchandise.  So since you asked......Oh wait I know....You are working on a resolution.  Uh huh

I'm glad I have discovered this thread. I noticed this when I woke up this morning and apparently walked 420 steps. Ok, I did wake up to use the toilet but that's across the hall, maybe like 10 steps there and back. Also worth mentioning that it was hot in the UK last night so I may have tossed and turn when trying to sleep.

I'm going to be conducting a test/keep a log for tomorrow and try these trouble shooting steps.

  • I wear the band on my left wrist, it's my non-dominant hand so I will set this to dominant. This should reduced the sensitiveness.
  • Tighten it up so there is no excessive movement when I am walking or sat at a desk while working
  • Turn off the GPS, I don't run or cycle. I tend to use a stationary bike when I exercise. I do travel a lot on public trains. I don't see this being an issue though
  • I have worked out my stride length by height but this is not the accurate way to calculate this. Will need to this by counting the steps method.

I can only think that there is either a bug in the device's firmware or app with in regards to stride but this does need to be fixed. I like the design of the Inspire since I am not a fan of bulky looking watches but if this cannot track steps correctly then what is the point of owning one? Could someone from the moderator or development team acknowledge this issue.

What a crock of...

I've recently come back from holiday with six mates.

Two have Garmins and the others used android and iPhone apps to count steps.

EVERY SINGLE DEVICE REPORTED HALF THE STEPS MY INSPIRE DID.

A total waste of £90.
