Inspire HR and Treadmill

Thought Inspire HR automatically will track treadmill, but is that only if I am swinging my arms.  I hold onto the railings when I use it and it doesn't seem to pick up on any of the steps.  What do I need to do to track this?

Wrist-worn trackers cannot really tell what legs are doing.  They detect steps from normal swinging of arms as in walking.  On treadmill when wrist is held steady holding railings (also when pushing shopping cart or baby carriage), steps are often not detected.

3 options:

1.  Continue as have been doing, losing steps but knowing heart rate data is getting picked up for calorie burn, active minutes, etc.

2.  If put tracker in pocket or pinned to clothing, will probably get better step count, but lose out on heart rate data.

3.  If you can manage to hold only one rail and let Fitbit arm swing free, you will get the best of both.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thank you.  I tried putting tracker in my sock and it is counting...although not sure how accurate.  Also put it through a beltloop and it counter...again not sure how accurate.  I may get a band to put it around my ankle......problem with that is when I am at the gym and want to switch to other types of exercise like weight-lifting....hmmmm
